Came down with a cold last Friday; it settled in my sinuses by Monday and has been there all week. Feeling marginally better today but still didn't feel up to any exercise even though it was near 50F. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
Wonderful Christmas with kids and my family in NJ...we got some nice things including a new photo calendar and photo coasters of the grandkids.

Brown at Patapsco Avalon. 3.6 km, 165m climb, partly sunny and temp around 50 with a breeze. I was a bit overdressed. We hadn't been to this part of the park before (though we've been to other parts farther upstream, I think). Spur and reentrant terrain mapped as mostly white woods. I kept decent bearings (to make sure which spur I was on) and didn't find a need to pace count as there were plenty of trails around. Good course by Boris G and Joe B, though the plunge down the hill to the last control was a bit nerve-wracking (too steep to just let go but I didn't have to sit down anywhere ;-)).
7th (or 8th?) out of 35-ish, with a couple MPs and a DNF and more to finish. Kathleen finished before we left and was happy to move into 1st place, 9 seconds ahead of Dave Webber. I was pleased not to have any major--or really minor--errors, just a misreading of trails heading to 9 (I climbed a hill to the mapped clearing SE of the control hill and corrected from there) which didn't cost me more than 30 seconds. I'm not in shape to do more than hike up any hills, but I jogged when hills or trails headed downhill. :-)
Lots of shoulders today, some balance (warrior 3 and eagle pose).
Not logged, but I get strength work every week lifting grandson #2, now about 20 lbs. (Who seems to on the way to walking by Christmas or shortly thereafter!)
Note
Some of the people who read my log (there are a few of you, I think) may remember Marilee Ball of SVO. I competed with early in my O career and enjoyed visiting with her and Mike's greyhounds. She passed away a few days ago; her obituary was shared on Facebook.
Easy class, mostly on our bellies, but occasionally on backs.
I started my watch ("running indoors") to get a sense of how active we can be in yoga, but this was a bad class to do that for, with almost no activity at all. :-D Maybe tomorrow.
Orienteering race (Green) 1:18:44*** 6.16 km (12:47 / km) ahr:124 max:158 spiked:12/14c slept:5.5 shoes: 2019 VJ Falcon 6.5 scot
Decided to do Green instead of Brown because there's really no climb here, despite there being some vague contours on the map. This *is* a lot of blueberry underfoot, where the mapped vertical green indicated anything from knee high to hip high shrubs. It was a bit more physical to get through but easy to see past. Course was 5.4km (brown was ~4.5km). Climb of 48m claimed but AP didn't calculate any; it was probably in between but closer to zero.
#1 distracted by a training group ahead of me on the trail...I mean ditch, and forgot I was looking for a thicket. Other non-spike was #11 which I tried to attack from the mapped "ride" but lost track of it (and was distracted by a JROTC kid) so bailed to the trail and found it that way. Jogged where footing was good, and alternated jogging with walking where it was a bit trickier underfoot.
EDIT: 10th of 30 8th of 25 or so on Green. Nice turnout on a decent December day (near 40, partly sunny).
Did okay on the half moons. A little slow on transitions to standing (compared to the instructor); so be it (I don't want to get dizzy).
New time of day (2:45 vs 5:00) might be good better for her, but makes it difficult to fit in other exercise (biking) if it stays this time next spring.
First seasonal snow! Okay, it's more like just a dusting as we've been just above freezing (34F) since yesterday when the rain began. Supposed to change to snow later today. :-/
