Note

Found this link to a talk by a NY Times writer about "simplicity." (Warning -- video lasts 21+ minutes)

Sure hope we can make the new USOF/OUSA site "simple." Or at least, simpler than it is now. It's nice to have people helping who seem to know their particular areas well.

Note

Since Swampfox is posting bird sightings, I will too.

On my walk to/from the mailbox (<1/4 mi each way), I pass the remnants of an apple orchard. Well, today I heard tapping (9-10 notes, fast to slow in a particular pattern), repeated 3 times. The bird was tapping on a metal street sign, and when I could see it I could tell it wasn't one of the woodpeckers I usually see here (downy, hairy, red-bellied; even pileated, tho not recently). It had red both above and below its beak! I looked it up in our bird book and discovered it was a yellow-bellied sapsucker; I saw its friend, too. They like old orchards. ;-)
