Ronde van Calderdale, aiming for a steady ride with it being first really hilly outing (125km, 3km climb) this year. Achieved that and finished in top quartile, so not too shabby.
My expectations were set when I that clocked even the handy, fit, young looking locals had 32t or even 36t sprockets on. My 27 felt inadequate and so it proved. Lovely route and weather weaving through many cobbled climbs, a few grand moorland sections within sight of orienteering areas, and some unavoidable busy urban link-road sections.
Shibden Wall was tamer than expected, was caught out by the greasyness of Old Lane in Luddendon and just didn't have the legs for final 100m of Trooper Lane in Halifax. Doing it again, I'd take the cross bike and 32t cassette.
Great atmosphere at the event, and would definitely return to explore more of the roads through Hebden into Lancashire
