Run race 1:30:22 [4] 10.91 km (8:17 / km) +867m 5:56 / km

Leg 2 of FRA relay with Nick D. Basically Stone Arthur, Great Rig, Fairfield, Deepdael hause, Grisedale Hause and back down Tongue Gill. Lovely route.

In mass start and made mistake of not pushing to front for punching start. Consequently stuck behind a lot of very slow traffic on steep stepped path for the first 15 minutes. Overtaking people th whole way - but definitely more difficult trying to get past on the rougher bits either side and no rhythmn. Better as things opened up on path over Great Rig and Fairfield tho' I suspect Nick could have gone quicker than me. Then more queues on the steep rocky decent to deepdale hause. Better on the rest of the descent and went past loads on the bit I had rece'd. Pulled a little bit ahead of Nick a couple of times, so slowed slightly and enjoyed a lovely fast cruise down the valley. Pleased that we got down in time to set Alice and Alan off on the Nav leg before the mass start. I am sure it made it more fun for them.

So passed loads of people but time not very good - kicking myself for my stupidity at the start. but really enjoyed my run and the whole event. Largest ever "fell race" in UK in terms of total numbers ?

Run 2:06:25 [3] 13.01 km (9:43 / km) +689m 7:41 / km

Rece of second half of leg 2 of FRA relay with Alice from the Youth Hostel.

Confused just before the fell by the fact that the "red compulsory route" on the course map went straight over an obviously uncrossable wall. Had to divert 100m to the south to go thru wall at the kissing gate / public foot path . What is about maps and fell runners ? Still not expecting any problems on the race itself - section will all be marked with red flags.

Further up on the "green" section of the descent managed to pick out some good lines off the path that will definitely be quicker. So worth going up to rece.

Right ankle not very stable on the descent , so will tape it for the race.

MDC run from near Nash Point. Down to the "beach" then along below the cliffs ( tide out) to Wych's point. Lovely bit of coast line - fast where sandy, but rocky in other parts . Back along the cliffs.

Orienteering race 1:10:48 [4] 6.7 km (10:34 / km) +371m 8:17 / km

MWOC local event at Hafod. Bit of a different day with Hafod looking magnificent withs its raging torrents and in its autumn regalia . Had to wait for the planner / organiser to get back from putting out, set out first and then had to "correct" some controls on the first loop which had been entrusted to one of the planners sons, so never felt like racing and the steep, brambly slope with out of date vegetation, didn't help. Starva's "elapsed time " of 1:47:21 " tells its own story! Still nice to get out . and good to see a few new families on and enjoying the Orange course.
