Orange at QOC Annual Beer Chase - though I didn't drink beer, and I didn't "chase". Eschewed the mass start at high noon for an earlier start at ~9:35. This was done under the guise of needing to be back to handle to chaos that is the mass start, but really it was because I hate starting so late in the day in June. And thank goodness I did, because the heat was brutal, - over 80 at 10 am, and so hot in the sun when having to cross the field back to the S/F... Thank you to Ted for having the courses ready even before the 10 am that had been agreed on.
Picked Orange because a very short glance at the courses showed that it looked more fun than the advanced courses. Feeling so sluggish after yesterday's excess. Winning was totally unexpected, but I was able to do some advanced orienteering, and I only had a small issue with #5.
Of note on how hot it was, on returning from the first 3.8 k loop, I took off my shirt and did the 1.2 loop in sports bra only. Only a product of the heat, not a testament to my six pack...that still needs some work.
After finishing, and getting the masses out, I enjoyed a chill day in the shade of Big Red, overlooking the water, and having enough breeze to keep me cool, but not so much that Big Red went sailing away. A very good day.
Thank you Amy, Mary S., Tori, Hannah, Kevin, Sara, Alli, and Barney to making this a fantastic year of epunching! I couldn't have done it without you all!
Sadly, I saw no turtles all day, despite the promising sign on the way into the park...
