Orienteering (White) 32:11 [2] 2.03 mi (15:51 / mi) +68m 14:21 / mi
weight:184lbs

The first five and the last controls on White needed to be put out, so I figured I might as well do the whole course. Had terrible issues with the hard part of the ankle brace rubbing the ankle bone and stopped about 10 times trying to adjust it before taking it out on the way to #5.

It was beautiful out there and so peaceful.

Orienteering race (Orange) 1:07:50 [3] *** 3.49 mi (19:26 / mi) +140m 17:17 / mi

Got back and was taking off my shoes, thankful to figure out that I had the hard part of the brace inserted incorrectly after I washed them. Seemed silly to change to warm clothes and dry shoes, if I was going out on Orange later. So, I adjusted things and got out at 10:30 with the goal to be back before the Bumble mass start at noon.

Fairly easy course with lots of trail options, which I avoided when possible. Some hard snow on some parts of the course which I was floating on top of, feeling so light and free...until I post holed and fell over. No damage done.

Happy to feel like my fitness is slowly improving, and while I gave some pains, none are more than I can put up with.

It was a good day.

Swimming 1:00:00 [1]

I had the lane to myself.

I will be so glad when the estate business is over and done with so I can get off the roller coaster ride once and for all.

Time to start a new puzzle. I suckered into a 3000 piece one after saying that 2000 pieces was enough.

Walking 20:00 [1] 1.25 mi (16:00 / mi)
weight:185lbs

Walked to the central office and back to deliver a transcript.

Walking (Treadmill) 45:00 [1] 3.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
weight:186lbs

Was grateful that the dinner bell rang...I had had enough.

Swimming 1:00:00 [1]
weight:186lbs

Rush hour at the pool! I had to share a lane for 40 minutes, and then the place emptied out, and I had the lane to myself again. May need to adjust my arrival time if this keeps up.

Walking 1:00:00 [1] 4.25 mi (14:07 / mi)
weight:186lbs

Home to Weenie Beanie, up to top of Walter Reed, to George Mason, and home via Columbus St hill. Ran a little here and there but mostly walking. Late start so dark by the end. Just about 50 F, and went with short sleeves, which was perfect for me.

Almost didn't get out for this because after picking up Roger from the hospital (the harvesting of the sample was successful), we had a long nap. However, Roger encouraged me to get out the door, and I am very glad that he did and I did.

Log entry from May 27, 2015: Now I have clocked more hours in a month since May 2011. WooHoo! And, I think i have managed to increase hours without breaking myself, but also not doing just piddling stuff. The only thing which still hurts to do is orienteering because my foot doesn't like being in the ankle brace, any ankle brace. But, that has seemed to be less painful the last two times out, though not pain free. So, progress for sure.

After that entry, training went downhill the next couple of months, not helped by being terribly out of shape and also being sick while in Scotland. Then I found out about my mom having cancer, and after she died, the downward spiral continued unabated until mid-December.

So, I wondered what January would bring - could I continue the late December run, or would I revert to being a slug? Well, besides the May 2015 total, 24 hours of training in a month is the second highest amount since May 2011. Now, to continue the trend in February.

Note

Roger has a golf ball size mass on his right lung, so I dropped him off at the hospital this afternoon, and tomorrow they will do a needle biopsy under general.

Orienteering (Greenbelt - Brown) 1:18:30 [3] 3.73 mi (21:03 / mi) +91m 19:34 / mi
weight:186lbs

4.4 km 80 m climb course

I wasn't really sure if I would go out or not. With all of the snow on the ground, I decided to see how long it too Amy, and whether she had any harrowing stories to tell. She came back happy, and before course closing, so I suited up and went out. Wish she had gotten back 10 minutes earlier. Quite enjoyed myself regardless, and found all of the controls, eventually. Course was well done, avoiding the nastiest parts of Greenbelt, and it couldn't have been a lovelier winter day. Temps were 60 when I got into the car to leave at 3:30.

Swimming 35:00 [1]

Couldn't bring myself to go before the orienteering event, but after a little tussle with the regular QOC dick near the end of the event, I needed to do some laps. And, having a shower after served as a twofer.

Shared a land throughout - the worse of all lanes to share - the one where I was up against the wall, and the one which has the handicap contraption. So, there is a pole which is like a dance pole which sticks about 6-8 inches from the side. The guy I was sharing with was super fast, so I was in his huge wash for what seemed like the whole time. After the trifecta of swallowing water, smacking both hands on the pole, and having my right calf cramp up, it was time to stop. Shorter than I dreamed of but enough for the day.

Wasn't as soothing as I had hoped, but I was happy to get some laps in anyway.
