Note

Huge storm blew through last night and knocked out the power. Realistically, it could be a few days until it is restored. A first in the 25 years that we have lived here. Usually it is a couple of hours.

A power pole was pulled down by a tree a couple of blocks from the house around 1045 last night.

Sadly, my generator is about 20 miles away, and it wasn't worth retrieving for what I have in the fridge/freezer.

No workout today, unless you count chatting up the neighbors while walking around in the boot. The ones next door to me had enough and sought refuge elsewhere for the night.

While I have books to read, I didn't read at all and didn't do too well with the whole unplugged thing.

More about food and drink, but it is time for a shower in the dark and seeking the "coolness" of the basement.

Note

Stupid "injury" of the day, or perhaps a combination of the last two days. Pretty painful sunburn on my lower back from where my t-shirt didn't quite meet my shorts, especially when bending over.

And back.
11 AM

Mowing/Yard (Trim (butcher) Holly bush) 30:00 [0]

Three more hours of cutting back the bushes so that I can see out the front door again. After all of the angst from how far I trimmed back last June, the bushes rebounded back to the original position. So, I cut back even further this year, bypassing the hedge trimmer and going right for the chain saw. Happy with the results, and I am pretty sure that this won't and me in divorce court.

Totally wasted when done. Down to a dehydrated 191. Back to work tomorrow.

Note

Foot/ankle doctor. New x-rays and other tests. Lots of questions and probing.

A couple of spurs (nothing new) and weak/stretched ankle ligaments (not surprised).

Advised to curtail all weight bearing activities (running or walking) until I see him again in two months. Adding an anti-inflammatory back in and a night splint. Also a boot during the day when walking around.

I can bike, swim, lift weights, or anything along that line. So, I can bike, or more correctly, I will bike.

So, that is the plan, for now. I can live with that, for now.

Mowing/Yard (Edging & raking) 30:00 [0]
weight:193lbs

Before embracing the treatment plan, I figured I would tackle what I usually do each summer when Roger is away from home. That is edging the lawn, cleaning up the leaves from under the magnolia tree, and trimming the holly bushes. Got the first two done in three hours. By then I was feeling totally spent and shaky, so I called it a day.

Will try to get the holly cut tomorrow after PT.

Biking 1:03:00 [1] 12.25 mi (5:09 / mi) +121m 4:59 / mi

Couldn't ride in today, and then was deterred by the wind gusting 15-18 mph after work. So, I lounged around until 6:45 and then went out. Pleasant conditions, except for the gazillion people and dogs littering the path.

Felt sluggish and lungs were very sore for the first 30. Glad I went out though.

All of PT. Yeah again!

9 AM

Biking 33:30 [1] 6.81 mi (4:55 / mi) +14m 4:53 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Ride to work despite the forecast for windy conditions/possible thunderstorms.

Realized when I was down the hill that I hadn't put my gloves on, though I had them in my hands just before leaving the house. Hands sweated a lot and were slipping a bit. Pleasant ride to work.
3 PM

Biking 40:20 [1] 6.47 mi (6:14 / mi) +60m 6:04 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Worked sucked today - still no AC. Had been asking for action through the maintenance channels but no joy, and no joy in sight. Moving boxes around today was miserable, and the conditions are unfair since I am supposed to have regulated temps for the records. Finally let my boss know what had been going on - 81 in my office at this point despite two fans circulating the stale air around. Told her that it was impacting my performance mentally and physically. She said to go home. Felt like a bit of a fraud since I was going to ride home in similar conditions, but it isn't really the same, I guess.

Tough headwind almost the entire way, but at least I didn't feel too hot.

When I was nearing the hill, I decided that I was mentally and physically spent :), and that I would walk up to the house. I was composing my AP entry in my mind, and I decided that it wouldn't be fun to have to post about taking the walk of shame. So, I zig zagged up a different way instead. I think five shorter steeper climbs with declines as well. It was a nice change.

Yeah! Back on track with a little sliver of tan on my training log.
