EX2: BYB 4 Fountainhead

Race timing went well without me.
11 AM

Orienteering race (FP - Yellow Middle Sun) 50:28 [3] *** 3.6 km (14:01 / km) +80m 12:37 / km
shoes: Pink Ice Bugs #2

Forerunner 310 XT: 2.77 miles with 87 m climb

Woke up feeling the effects of the last two days - very painful heel and hip, as well as the wine with dinner. Coupled with the rainy forecast (it started raining right around the first start time), I was pretty sure that I wasn't going out today. Greg L was sure that he would win money if he placed a bet on that outcome, and I was in agreement.

Set up the O-Lynx at the Start and the Go controls and then told the OCIN SI person that he should go out, because I might go out later, but I wasn't going out now for sure.

Things ran smoothly, and the rain stopped, and a rainbow was seen over the mountain (OK, the rainbow part is not true), so I got myself mentally prepared to go. The MD was pressed into driving me to the restroom and then closer to the Start about 30 minutes after the last starter.

Across the dam, and then about 400 meters down a mud slide and then 400 metes up a hill. Ugh, I should have skipped today.

But now I was out there, and I hadn't fallen down the muddy trail, so I tried to enjoy the course, and I did, apart from a little fiasco from 4-5. Like yesterday, I skipped a control in my mind, so I headed from 5-6 when I was really going 4-5. Truly puzzled on why the trail out of 5 was missing but I forged ahead. Luckily, this was not a huge error, and I was able to easily go to 5 from where I popped out of 4.

Won the course split to 9, probably based on the fact that I was able to navigate to it in an advanced fashion.

However, I had nothing at the end, and my run in split is shown as an error. I did sound like a train, and my voice has been mostly gone since.

3/14 on the course. So, a successful weekend of beating up on the youngsters. ;) And, thanks to my rankings magic, I am 10 in the Yellow rankings. Can I move up any in Georgia? We shall see...though I am pretty sure that I have F-Yellow #1 nailed down for 2012. :)

Really, really enjoyed this weekend. A perfect combination of working and competing. Who knows, Yellow just may be the course for me.

Orienteering race (FP - Yellow Sprint) 15:59 [3] *** 1.6 km (9:59 / km) +39m 8:54 / km
shoes: Pink Ice Bugs #2

Forerunner 310 XT fully charged 1.17 miles and 30 m climb

At the event site at 7:30 with Sandy. She was not running the Sprint, so she put out the O-Lynx units at the GO control. We also drove up to the Start and set out the O-Lynx there.

First starts were at 0900, and I was able to get out at 1022. Today was overcast and probably 20 degrees cooler then yesterday, so I was much happier.

Nailed everything but 6-7 when the bridge seemed to come up way too soon, so I headed to the bridge further up the hill.

Really enjoyed this wide open sprint course.

Three minutes behind 11 year old Lucas L. and 4/20 on the combined White/Yellow course. So, today, I took great pleasure out of beating up on -14, -12 and -10. How far I have fallen. ;)
1 PM

Orienteering race (FP - Yellow Middle Sat) 36:19 [3] *** 2.4 km (15:08 / km) +60m 13:27 / km
shoes: Pink Ice Bugs #2

Forerunner 310 XT: 2.23 miles with 50 m climb

Afternoon event and still appreciating the cooler conditions. Though the best part of the day was when David W. handed me a cheeseburger after the Sprint, and then Janet T. provided me a PB&J after the Middle. Food! Yeah!

After the O-Lynx controls were moved to the Middle GO and Start location with no problems, I actually started the Middle at my assigned start time.

Another fun course with my biggest issue being in the MUD/STRAW area. Found 5, 7, back to 5 instead of 6, punched, left 5 for 7, light went off - was that really 6, back to 5, finally off to 6.

A little bobble at 10 after taking a stupid route choice across the scruffy field.

Only other "error" was the GO-Finish after Lucas smoked the run in.

9/16 on the Yellow course with 9 minutes of error. Oops.

Orienteering (Fyling Pig - F-Yellow Mid) 49:03 [3] *** 3.1 km (15:49 / km) +100m 13:38 / km
shoes: Pink Ice Bugs #2

To the event site early with a car full of event supplies for the refreshment table, as well as some of the registration materials, in addition to a Texas junior who needed a ride.

Set up the O-Lynx radio control equipment which required a walk up the hill to the start, as well as a couple of trips up and down the road to place repeaters.

By the time I was able to start, it was just way too hot for me at 70+ F and strong sun, and I didn't really want to walk back up the hill to the start. However, I was excited about doing some Yellow courses this weekend and testing the Achilles and hip, so I headed up the hill.

A first for me, or maybe a second - dead Forerunner which I got to carry around as an anchor on my wrist.

A bit off to the left on the first two controls and then settled down after that. Should have gone around from 10-11 instead of taking the advanced route cross country - my biggest mistake of the day since I was slow slogging up the hill, and then I doubted where I came out on the trail and went back and forth before finding the control.

With no competition in F-Yellow, I took some pleasure in placing 5/17 overall on the course which consisted of M/F-14, and this was despite the fact that I am almost 200 pounds these days. Unfortunately there is photographic evidence of my jelly rolls. Perhaps that will motivate me to eat less crap, but probably not.

It should be noted that I was 16+ minutes behind AG!!!!

Note

Arrived at CVG with no issues. Headed north to walk around HW but ended up helping MM with some last minute meet details instead. An enjoyable way to spend the afternoon.

Mowing/Yard (Speed mowing) 10:00 [0]

There were clumps of grass about 8" tall, so I raced around the yard before catching flight to CVG.
