Orienteering race 42:34 [3] *** 2.3 km (18:30 / km) +100m 15:12 / km
weight:174lbs shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

Actual distance = 2.51 miles, climb = 145

Egged on to do the course with no compass, which led to about 9 minutes of error from 3-4.

Orienteering race 24:02 [3] *** 2.3 km (10:27 / km) +70m 9:04 / km
shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

Actual distance = 1.63 miles, climb = 81 m

Came back and then did the White course, much the same as Yellow but in the opposite direction. Hoping for 10 minutes per k. Close enough considering the climb and the heat being 80 F by this point.

Leg felt fine, though hitting nettles on the same shin during the first course pretty much numbed it to any other pain. A bit sorer this evening again.

Mowing/Yard (Weeding, etc.) 10:00 [0]

A couple hours of yard work. I Hate getting my hands dirty in the yard, and I hope to coast into October, except for the mowing. Though, I can already list five things I need to get done, now that Roger is doing less.

Biking (Commute in) 26:00 [2] 5.8 mi (4:29 / mi)
slept:4.0 weight:173lbs shoes: Bike Sandals

Met with the contractor before work about getting the basement stairs repaired and some painting done. Ankle is more black and blue today, and the knot below my knee is noticeably swollen and sorer. Not sure if cycling is good for it or not, but I didn't want to pass on the ride to work work on a very beautiful morning.

Left the house a little after 8, and there didn't seem to be a ton more people doing Bike to Work Day. There was a marked increase in the a**hole to rider ratio though that you don't usually see among the regular commuters. Two different twosome riding/chatting side by side and overlapping the yellow line at the narrowest part of the trail. One made no move to get over, and the other did very late. Agh! Didn't let it ruin what was otherwise a great ride to work. There was a sweet tailwind to make it even better. New PR by a minute.

Biking 1:00:30 [2] 12.0 mi (5:03 / mi) +92m 4:55 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Left work a little early and headed home the long way. Wind was much tougher this afternoon, especially the last couple of miles home. Now my right shoulder is killing me to shrug it or move my arm back. I must have been holding on pretty hard.

Monday: Travel day
Tuesday: Recovery Day
Wednesday: Would have liked to get a walk or something in, but I was just too wiped out still.
Wednesday night: finally wind down and sleep
Thursday morning: unable to get out of bed until 10 AM. Three hours late to work.
Thursday evening: goal is to get some kind of exercise in to break the chain before it gets to a week, and then to two weeks, etc.

So, I hop on the bike, and I hope that my leg doesn't mind, because it turns out that my right ankle is very swollen, as well as black & blue, and my upper leg bone (below the knee cap) is extremely painful to the touch.

Biking felt OK, and I pushed out to Falls Church, and then I turned around and headed home in the slight downhill direction with the wind at my back. Thank goodness the conditions were in my favor to have fun on the way home!

Leg is pretty sore this evening, but I plan to ride into work tomorrow after a 7:15 AM meeting with a contractor about the basement stairs which have pulled away from the wall.

Note

Finally crashed at 11:30 last night, so about 41 hours with no sleep. Got up and was able to concentrate and get the MTB race results finished and sent off to Jim for posting.

Left the DeWitts around 9:15 and headed back to Philadelphia with Sandy driving. Made good time on the return trip, despite my need to stop twice.

Unloaded stuff at Sandy's, hit the nearby McD's for my post race double cheeseburger and fries (a day late), adding a vanilla milkshake as well. All were excellent! On the road home at 1:15, stopping once to resend the Saturday race results to Jim, since I had sent the wrong files the first time. Oops. And, once for a pit stop.

Made it home by 4:30, car unloaded by 5:00. Dinner, wine, passed out by 9.

Nothing like making it home safely, and I am only missing one item (that I know of) - my compass left in the back of Joe's car.
