Event: QOC Manassas

2 PM

O Training (Yellow - Take 1) 5:30 [0] 0.33 mi (16:40 / mi)
weight:185lbs shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

Epunch duties at Manassas with a "rookie" assistant (Greg L) who did fabulously!! Not sure if I wanted to unbundle and go out at all, what with the warm 52 F conditions, not! With the wind blowing, and under the pavilion, it felt much colder. My face is like sandpaper, and my split finger, which I thought has healed is open and bleeding again. Anyway, it really was a very good day, despite the wind, and running out of Orange maps halfway through the start window, and then Brown maps not too much later. Lots of groups buying extra maps, so the 200 starts used many more maps then that. It all worked out with people letting us reuse their maps, and getting a PDF version via email.

And, if you are still here, this was my first workout of the day. Started on the Yellow course and went to the control I could see on the pavilion, but it was the incorrect code. So after running around aimlessly for a few more minutes, I realized I was looking at the White code (maps were in my bag back-to-back, so not sure how that happened...). Since I was running unofficially anyway, I went back and cleared and restarted.

O Training (Yellow - Take 2) 30:03 [2] *** 2.1 km (14:19 / km) +40m 13:04 / km
shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

Went out without a compass since I can't just keep loping around the easy courses without trying to get something out it besides a carefree romp. Knocking the controls off fine until I got to the one harder control on the course (#7), and then I wasted 10 minutes exploring some woods about 90 degrees off from where I should have been and somewhat off of the map. Opps! Started to think I would just need to run it in, but I hung in there and relocated a third time, then good the rest of the way.
3 PM

O Training (White) 13:49 [2] *** 1.6 km (8:38 / km) +30m 7:54 / km
shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

Got back about 2:55, retied my shoes, drank some water and headed out again. Since I had reinforced the fact that the controls should be picked up starting at 3 PM sharp, I ran a little harder seeing if I could get to them all before they were picked up. Got the first two, beat Keg off of the third one, touch punched 4 & 5, punched 6 & 7, though 8 was gone, and into the Finish.

Good run pushing as hard as I could. As I suspected, my legs (quads) are very sore this evening - a good sore.

When I got done, I was very happy to see the Finish chute broken down and the flags rolled up the way I like. So, all and all, a very good day. Home at 4:45. Unpacked, car unloaded, dinner, dishes, AP updated. No clean jeans for work tomorrow - easily solved by staying home. ;)

Trail Run (Prince William) 2:14:25 [3] 10.26 mi (13:06 / mi) +180m 12:25 / mi
weight:185lbs shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

Kind of a late start to the day, but needed to bust out of the slob/blob mode, as I tried to make up for the wasted week all at once.

Went in the opposite direction on my usual loop. I think I like this way except for the narrow parts on South Valley. I tend to pitch right, and in this direction that is towards the creek. Beautiful day on the wooded trails, with lots of people out, especially for PW. Probably 30 during the time.

Trails were generally great shape with Turkey Run and Oak Ridge trails being particularly wonderful. South Valley, especially the closing three miles, was getting slippery.

Averaged 13 min miles for the first 10 then walked the last part in.

Followed this up when I got home with some much needed weeding. I am going to fell all of this in the morning.

Note
weight:186lbs

Today I weighed in at 186. Now, isn't that special?!

Not one drop of caffeine today. Though I supplemented with lots of chocolate candy after dinner. Not a fair trade off - diet cokes vs. Candy.
