6 AM

Biking 28:00 [1] 5.75 mi (4:52 / mi)

Speedy ride into work. Actually left the house at 6:35, so I can leave work a little earlier today. Yeah!
2 PM

Misc (YES! THE DVD!) 40:00 [2]

Late 'lunch" to do this right before leaving work.
3 PM

Biking (Ride home) 31:00 [2] 6.0 mi (5:10 / mi)

Ride home. Well, I haven't actually left from work yet, but I will soon.

Tomorrow, I have no training planned, but Saturday is a long ride. Goal it to be out the door at 5AM and get 5 hours in before the worst of the heat. We shall see.
Sunday is race timing from 6 AM to 4 PM, so another "rest" day.

Note

So, right now my weight is 180, and that is lots more then other people. Kind of discouraging. But, then I did a bit of trash consolidation tonight. I think the number of licorice and jujyfruits wrappers may be a factor.

Another Valerie item for today...I wanted to wear a lightweight pair of shorts at work. Work requires physical activity, and I get hot, especially with the AC not getting below 77 and high humidity (Yes, I know that isn't hot for some people, but it is for me when I am throwing 30 lb boxes around). So, I decided I would wear my EMS cargo shorts today, but they were pretty wrinkled - I do have my standards. Well, trying to iron them (at cotton heat) was a huge failure. I ruined the shorts (many holes), the iron (major gunk on it), and the ironing board cover (tried to wipe said junk off).

Time to go shopping, in so many ways.

Biking (Commute) 28:52 [1] 5.75 mi (5:01 / mi) +11m 4:59 / mi

Out the door right just before 7. Nice morning.
3 PM

Biking (Mount Vernon Trail) 2:12:11 [2] 25.61 mi (5:10 / mi) +171m 5:03 / mi

Ride home the long way - work to airport, through Old Town Alexandria, and then almost to Mount Vernon and back. Considered the Wilson Bridge crossing, but winds were pretty strong, so I saved that for another day.

The trail traffic was comfortably light, bugs were not. A picture of the aftermath the next time.

Walking warm up/down (Treadmill) 10:00 [1] 0.6 mi (16:40 / mi)
shoes: NB 1064 Blue

At home today. Five minutes warm up and five cool down.
3 PM

Running (Treadmill) 1:00:00 intensity: (40:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) 5.5 mi (10:55 / mi)
shoes: NB 1064 Blue

Thought to do an easy five miles at 5.0 mph, but that got old fast, and it also is hard on the treadmill because my stride is shorten at that pace, so it is uncomfortable.

So, I went five minutes each at 5.2, 5.4, 5.6, 5.8, 6.0, 6.0, 5.8, 5.6, 5.4, 5.2 mph. That felt better, was less boring, and the 10 minute mile non-stop was very satisfying as well.

Misc (The DVD) 40:00 [2]

Got my haircut today (not scalped, Charlie, just trimmed up with length below my ears). Anyway, I needed to wash the smelly stuff out, so I decided being sweaty as well first was in order. My legs are really pooped from the last few days (sore quads, but no injury), so this was tougher then usual, but also enjoyed knocking another one out. Maybe I will aim for once a week for a year. Maybe I will actually tone something up. Or, maybe this is my last time doing it for the next year. You never know with me.

Biking (W&OD to Herndon) 4:00:00 [2] 45.0 mi (5:20 / mi) +454m 5:10 / mi

Got up at 5:30 AM with a goal of leaving the house at 6. Took longer then I expected to get ready, so it was 6:20 before I left. Not that late, but I wanted to get as much time in before the trail got busy and the day heated up.

The trail got busier around 9:30 when the fast cyclist started zooming by in large groups, mostly coming from the other direction. The thing which irritates me the most (beside horse poop), is the runners, walkers, and especially cyclists who insist on traveling two wide. The trail isn't that wide, and I find it a little scary the bikes crowding or over the yellow line.

Anyway, besides that, it was a lovely ride, and I am sore in all the right places. Home out to Herndon on the W&OD. Time includes a little stop time which I didn't bother to stop my watch for.

Animals sighted were some juvenile squirrels, a chipmunk which I just missed hitting, a bunny, and a turtle which I saw in both directions since I turned around not too long after seeing it for the first time. It seemed a little confused, first going one way and then the other. I would have stopped and moved it but I would have been run over.

Trail Run (C&O Towpath) 2:04:28 [2] 11.06 mi (11:15 / mi)
shoes: NB 1064 Blue

Had an option for O training this morning at 10, but I really wanted to be done and home by 10, so, sadly, I passed.

I wanted something unpaved, but I didn't have the desire to drive all the way down to Prince William, so I went to Carderock instead. Good choice for me today - a mindless out and back.

I never use the virtual partner on the FR, so I tried it out today. I picked 11:15 per mile pace, and figured I could get ahead, and then use some of the credit time when I was tiring. And, that is what happened. I was a little behind to start, but then stayed ahead until the last little part. Then I got 20 seconds behind, so I had to speed it up a bit. The trail head appeared at exactly even, and I was done, so done.

.53 to start at 1147 pace, and then miles of 1115 1053 1020 1040 1123 1055 1123 1150 1102 1220 1127, .53 to end at 1122 pace.

Another Valerie move today. Froze my hydration bladder full, I couldn't get the top unscrewed either. It didn't melt except a tiny bit, so I had no water to speak of. When I turned around, I stopped in the bathroom and ran water over it, so I got a little bit there. I didn't notice the water fountain on the way out, but I did see it on the way back, so I was fine. Lesson learned,

Misc (The DVD) 40:00 [2]

Damn you, Bash! I was all ready to crawl into bed with a full tummy and a trashy book, having written the day off for a workout, when I read your log for today. Actually, I guess I should thank you. Thank you. Another one in the books. :)
