Trail Run (Pax River Park) 1:00:00 [2] 4.3 mi (13:57 / mi)
shoes: 8 Orange

Decided to skip any formal O training in the interest of having the afternoon at home to get some yard work with Roger. Needing to do something productive running wise, I went to pick up the control which was left out at the Pax River meet last month after it occurred to me that David L had his hands full after putting on the Scout meet yesterday.

Had french toast and 1/2 pack of scrapple for breakfast, and then hit the road. Still way too full 90 minutes later, and I felt sluggish early on, and later on too. From the barn, took the Orange trail W to the Blue going S. Picked up the control.

Then headed S to the Light Blue, to the Red going E, Orange N to the field. Then some back and forth including up the road from the parking lot a little to get to an hour. I may have gone longer, but I never really realized how trashy the trails are, especially when they are covered with leaves. I was hitting all kinds of hidden stuff as well as soft spots. So, I wasn't feeling really confident running until I hit the road. I stretched out for about 1/3 mile, and then turned around and walked back to the car.

Forgot to bring along the insoles for either pair of shoes I had with me, so I ran without. The inova8 were still comfortable, as least for the hour+.

Walking 6:20 [1] 0.35 mi (18:06 / mi)
shoes: 8 Orange

Walk back to the car.

Mowing/Yard 10:00 [0]

After a nap, I mowed the lawn, picking up the few leaves which have fallen. Many more to come. Also spent an hour clearing the big stalks out of the gardens.

I enjoyed the weekend spending quality time with Roger and having minimal responsibilities.

O Training (GFMD) 2:00:00 [2] *** 5.5 mi (21:49 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Green

I need having something to look for to get me off trail, so I planned prerunning one of the possible courses from an upcoming QOC meet. Got into the woods just before 9. A little chilly. Woods are so nice!!

Goal for the day - act like this was day 1 of Compass 101, so, I looked at it a lot. Fumbled here and there looking for the streamers but mostly good.

Then called it a day after not finding 9 and starting to stumble around too much. Will have to review the tracks after lunch/nap with Roger.

Took trail and towpath back. Lots of people on the towpath and even more parked up at the Falls RD lot.

EDIT: My tracks say I was exactly where I needed to be for #9 (107), so the streamer is gone, or I just didn't see it. Since I was too stubborn to admit I may be right and move on, we'll chalk this up to good relocation practice.

Roger and I had a late lunch (a really early dinner) at a place in Reston. There was a (rescue) dog expo taking place. There were all kinds of booths, and people walking dogs around, some of which were looking for homes. I actually fell instantly in love with a dog - NO! not this one!

Now, I don't exactly love dogs, but Walker (a small hound, no picture) was just sitting there all curious while all this chaos was going on around him. If I was looking for a dog, I would have picked him. But since I don't need a dog, I went and looked at bikes instead. I didn't get one of those either. :)

Something to stretch the lungs and the legs. ~mile run and then the rest walking, first part of walk around the nature trail, and then back up the hill. Beautiful afternoon.

Running/Walking (Readmill) 1:00:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (30:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) 5.25 mi (11:26 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

5 minute each warm up and cool down
1 minute each @ 5.0 6.0 5.0 5.4 6.4 mph x 10

Not feeling like slogging around the neighborhood loop tonight, so I figured this workout would be good for me because of the mixed pace.

Went well with just a little bit of sore lungs, and the left hip got a little tight near the end when I was shortening up my stride.

Listened to my own tunes which only serves to emphasize what lousy taste in music I have. I need to do a mix of something just for this workout - 1 minute clips at the correct tempo.

Note

So, yesterday when I finished my course, Max (almost 5) was "manning" the epunch computer, and Alexis (5) was directing people to download. After I downloaded, Max printed out a set of overall results. Peggy told him not to do that after each person, and I laughed and said that I had bought 50 rolls of the receipt paper, so I wasn't concerned.

I asked Max if he was pushing the green button before he printed the results (to refresh the report), and he insisted that yes, he was, while in the same breath asking what green button. So, I showed him, and maybe next time there won't be 15 strips of the same exact results printed out and stacked on a nearby table. Or maybe there will be, and I won't care because Max was bonding with the epunch computer, and, so I might have an assistant in the making (and I bought 50 rolls of the receipt paper).

Still smiling over this one.
