More rogaine training, this time by test "running" the Tom O'Marathon at Fair Hill which is coming up in December 2009. Be there, or be square.
It will be a fun time with lots of different textures experienced thoughout the course.
My thoughts are all over the place right now, so I'll post this much, and maybe I will come back and flesh it out, but I probably won't.
Of course, a couple of pictures...Sandy was excited to see this tunnel near the beginning of the course. She didn't remember it even though she knows this map pretty well.
Thank goodness the course setter arranged for a cooling station near the end of the event. With the temps in the high 60s, I was feeling very over heated.
Tough, tough, tough to be on my feet for so long. But in spite of the trashed feet, I enjoyed myself. Blisters and painful Achilles kept me going slower then I would have liked. The unseasonal temps, snow earlier in the week moistening up the trails, and the horse traffic making some of the trails a slippery mess didn't help things.
The plan was to not run, or to do very little running, and that is what happened. About 2 minutes of running spread over three downhills. Running is definitely more difficult with a full pack - 170 oz of liquid, headlamps just in case, food for 5-6 hours, so I am glad I wasn't planning to run much since it wouldn't have been too much fun anyway.
