Orienteering race (Middle Red) 1:02:22 [3] *** 3.7 km (16:51 / km)
shoes: Icebugs Sky Blue

Out early (9:15) a couple of minutes after Cliff (meet director). Beautiful morning, and I enjoyed being out int he woods.

I had about 8 minutes in error/stop time. Stop time included 1:20 to untie a bag and turn it right side out. Not sure if it had been hung that way, or it had been tampered with since it was by a trail, but it was bent and flat against the tree. There was also a control on the rocks which was hung too high up the hill and was moved afterwards. And, finally, a missing control unit which I spent a little time looking for. Flags and holder were there, but the unit had been stolen. :(

Came back and got the download set up and worked fast and furious for the next 4 hours. Lots of mental energy since many people were doing two courses, and things had to be fiddled with to allow the reuse of the SI cards. It all went well with two computers going, and excellent assistance from Jon P, Van and Heidi.

Orienteering race (Hemlock Sprint) 14:43 [4] *** 1.8 km (8:11 / km)
shoes: Salomom XT Wings 10

Working all day yesterday and then more hours today, then getting ready in a rush, and going out when it was hotter, are not good race prep, or maybe they are... I did take off my watch, so that I wouldn't obsess on how long it was taking me. My disadvantage of going out first this morning was made up for by going out last on this course in the afternoon, at least for one control. By then, I knew all about the now infamous #9, so I nailed that one, but I also did better than I expected to for the rest of the course.

I fumbled the first two controls by looking in front of each building, instead of behind, and the fence ones both got me a little, but it was really a solid run even if you take out my advantage to #9.

There was a brief discussion on throwing out the control, but the results stood. If you want to see the standings without the control, here they are.

Note

Race Timing Rocky Gap Duathlon - Long exhausting day for this 12 hour plus driving 2+ hours each way (all in the dark). Timing went well enough, though software doesn't support the 12 hour, as many laps as you can get format. Need to write something...

Anyway, I should not have driven home since I was very pooped. I was awake at 1:30 AM, rested until 5 AM, on the road at 5:30 AM, at park at 8 AM, on the road home at 10 PM, home at ~ 12:45 AM (it is a blur). Had to stop twice to try to sleep, but that didn't happen, so I kept on going. Fortunate that I didn't have an accident. As I was going down the GW PKWY (last then 15 miles of the 120 I had driven one way), I was thinking that I hoped I didn't have any incidents which required a quick decision. Just then, a mother deer and her fawn were crossing the road, and an additional fawn was slowly following. Noticed them in time so I wasn't the road killer, and I hope those behind me weren't either.

As of Sunday 8 PM, I do not have the results sent to the race director. Feeling the pressure since I am "paid" to do this event.

Biking 43:00 [1] 8.0 mi (5:22 / mi)
shoes: Shimano Bike

Didn't want to ride in today, but I didn't want empty spot on my graph.
In 2.4 miles
2x1.6 miles to central office
Home 2.4 miles

Running/Walking 1:03:00 intensity: (24:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (19:00 @3) 5.0 mi (12:36 / mi)
shoes: Orange Crush (adidas)

Surprise, surprise - I got a run in as well. Ran down the hill behind school (1 mile in ~10:00), then walked the nature trail (.6 miles), and back up the hill (.6 miles). Then back down (1 mile in 9:00), nature trail again, and then half of it again, and then the mile back. Or something like that. :) Yeah for me!

Running (Dora Kelley Nature Trail) 31:25 [2] 3.0 mi (10:28 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

No biking to work yesterday since my legs (and me) were toast. I am always more exhausted the second day after a big effort then on the first day. Since I had to drive in today, I brought my running stuff and ran on the bike trail and the unpaved nature trail behind work. The bike trail section is 1 mile each way, and along the way you can pick up the nature trail. So, I ran back and forth on this several times.

Hamstrings still very sore, especially on the paved parts. Lungs never felt great today. Pretty painful the first 30 minutes which contributed to the desire to stop running.

Walking 33:10 [1] 2.25 mi (14:44 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

When I ran out of steam, I walked the nature trail a couple of more times, and then back uphill to the car. Actually, it would be a good hill for hill repeats, if I were ever so inclined.

Very happy to be out on this beautiful day.

Biking 50:30 [1] 9.5 mi (5:19 / mi)
shoes: Shimano Bike

No jurors were called today, which is good since I don't think I could have biked that hilly route to the courthouse. Quads and hammies a little sore today, but good sore. Hip flexor is hanging in there.

Biked to work via the central office - 17:50 for 3.0 miles
Adding in my lunch ride - 8:10 for 1.6 miles
And the ride home the long way - since I am putting it down now, maybe I won't take the shortcut home - 24:00 4.4 miles [Edit: 24:30 4.9 miles. Wind was really strong, and I couldn't imagine getting up the big hill at the end, so I did the extra miles at the beginning around the neighborhood behind the school, since I had already committed myself. Then I took the easy way to the house - no hill today. Legs hurt going down the stairs. No jury duty Tuesday either. Maybe I'll get called on Wednesday - that would be a good day, if I actually need to report any of the days.]
