Race Timing
Colder than I would like when having to type numbers in, but the wind was calm at least.
I can't say the same for an old nemesis from my days of track & field. This man always tested the limits of the volunteers' patience, and he is the one who made me cry. I always say that I'll work events for a club until someone makes me cry, and I pretty much mean it. So, that was my last season of volunteering at track & field meets.
Well, today was the first trail race he has shown up for. He was there close to race time because he went to the Visitors' Center, and not to Camp 1. Nothing in the directions gave the VC as the meeting place. The race was sold out, and had been posted as such for at least a week, but he had been encouraged to come by some 3rd party group. He started screaming and cussing at the race staff (luckily I was not involved in this part), so he was given a number. The RD, who was absent at the time, told me to make him a DQ. I did not do it then because the RD wasn't going to be around when the guy finished and this result was posted, and I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. Indeed, the guy came and wanted to discuss with me why there wasn't a 60+ age group. I told him that I wasn't the one to discuss it with, and asked him to move out of my space, pointing out that I was working and needed to see the finishers. He insisted on getting the names of who he should discuss it with, and my assistant gave him a couple of names of staff. He moved aside but a minute later, he was back in front of me, and telling me that I had to find those people for him. I then raised my voice, told him no I didn't, and he needed to move out of my space. He said something like, well, good morning to you, aren't you pleasant? And I said that I was pleasant the first time, and now I wasn't, and he needed to move out of my space NOW. He left, and finally found the RD, who told him he was a DQ, and that it really didn't matter if there was a 60+ age group or not. More heated discussion, luckily no where near me, and the rest of my duties went off without a hitch. I am thinking that the RD is really glad that the jerk didn't make me cry, though he did make another staff member cry.

Tired (nap after work helped a little) and sore (knees pretty painful through the center of the kneecap), so I am kickin' back another day. Chest is still pretty congested, though I am not rattling like last week, and I can cough without the fear that I am going to, well, you know.

I am doing laundry in my newly delivered washer/dryer. Just getting around to the Arizona dirty clothes, and broken equipment wasn't the issue. What a slug! I discovered that I have misplaced the legs to my zip off pants. Now I have an excuse to go buy another (bigger) pair.
