Event: QOC Bowie

Note

B&A Half Marathon - Well, I signed up at least. And, I was wise enough not to attempt it after being sick all week with an upper respiratory infection. Plus, having to take an aleve to relieve the pain in my knees while climbing the stairs was another sign that it was not meant to be. Maybe next year, since I like this race even though it is paved.

Orienteering race (Bowie Green) 1:27:32 [3] *** 5.9 km (14:50 / km)
shoes: Ice Bugs Men's Blue 8.5

Wisely reviewed the course beforehand and saw that Green was Red except for the last 4 controls on Red. So, I took the Green option and truncated the course since I got out late, was messing up, needed to get back so Heidi could go out, not feeling super, AND it was BOWIE. I did manage to stay dry until #14 or so, and even then I didn't go in up to my neck like some others did.

My three biggest errors were when I just headed into some intricate areas with no plan. Oh, well, perhaps I will learn some day.

Course was actually 5.9, not the advertised 5.0.

It was a beautiful day with another great turnout - 111 starts on Orange, Brown, Green, and Red.

Trail Run 18:00 [2] 1.25 mi (14:24 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs Men's Blue 8.5

Run to start and back, and also back and forth to see where the guy running the start had turned off by mistake. Already starting later than I had wanted to (and after the official starting time), so I was feeling a bit peeved that things weren't set up to go.

This was one of those meets which made me grouchy. I could start expounding on why, but I am feeling mellow now, so I am letting it go.

Note

My "accomplishment" for the week - I needed some thin vinyl to make some control number plagues for the new USOF controls. Carl B from NTOA had used vertical blinds, and I have a brother printer to make adhesive labels to stick on, so I figure I'll use the same material. So, I go in Blinds...Go and ask about buying some pieces of white vertical blinds. The woman wants to put me into the computer to make a quote. I say that I don't want to be in the computer - I just want to find out the price. She says that she has never had that question before, and she has to ask someone. I spy a woman who looks to be the manager, and my person does go to check with her on how to proceed. I follow along. I state that I just want to buy some pieces, and they can even be broken pieces. The next thing I know, I have about 20 floor samples, for free. Not all white, like I had intended, but free, and they're mine. Stupid, I know, but gosh, it is simply pleasing to me.

Note

I can take a deep breath today without pain, and I even planned on doing the core workout. But after a nap, that wasn't going to happen. So, now, I'll just finish the week "tapering" for the half marathon on Sunday, which I probably shouldn't do, but I probably will do.
