Running (Vienna to Columbia Pike) 1:35:00 [3] 10.0 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 4

Roger dropped me off at the caboose in Vienna at about 9 AM, and I ran home. Not sure why I wanted to do this today. Maybe because asking Roger last night to take me out made me more likely to follow through and not blow off another day. And possibly because I knew the trail would be fairly empty of training groups since the MC Marathon was taking place in Arlington/DC.

Temps were perfect in the mid 50s, but the wind was a bit stiff at times. I really wished I had worn a visor and/or sunglasses. The sun was very strong in my face the whole time. Other than that, I enjoyed the outing.

Half mile splits:
452 459
433 447
447 508 (walked the uphill between 495 & 66)
459 431
912 (didn't see the marker on the bridge over Rt 7)
436 441
424 (too fast, had to walk some of the next one) 533
435 437
440 451
439 436

Last did this in December 06 - about the same pace, 1/2 mile longer -
506 453
433 449
455 451
501 443
459 444
457 442
451 441
437 455
453 437
454 423
430

Walking warm up/down 15:31 [1] 1.0 mi (15:31 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 4

A bit at the beginning, and the rest from Columbia Pike to the house.

I put clean laundry away last night - there were 26 pairs of socks!

Note

A-meet tasks overtook the day. I planned to get out after the rain subsided, but I worked on building a structure from PVC for hanging the results at the meet next weekend.

And, here is a sneak peek at the current location of the controls for next Saturday.

Thanks to DVOA, CNYO, and HVO for providing controls for the US Champs. And to VOC, which was on stand-by. I think this is probably the most electronic controls used for a weekend of events in the US - Friday: Sprint 58, Classic Model 12, Sprint Model 8, Saturday 93, Sunday 87 - plus all of the clear/check/start (2 starts on Saturday & Sunday) and finish controls. An interesting puzzle to get it all figured out.

Note

I wanted to do a fund raiser at the event next weekend, but I didn't quite get it thought out enough ahead of time. My idea was Peeps related. For each different style of Peeps given to me, I would donate x to AP and an equal amount to the US team. Any duplicates would be a lesser amount.

Of course, this was related to a trip to the grocery yesterday. A woman had a box of pumpkin Peeps in her basket. I asked her where she found them, and though she didn't speak any English, she did figure out what I was interested in and led me to them. I bought a few, er, 10 packages. Also, some candy corn pumpkins. I already had my one bag quota for the season, but I am going to eat these anyway.

Note

How do you know that you have too many shoes in circulation?
You haven't logged a fairly new pair since Jul 28, and you didn't even notice... I guess I need to look around for them, and I also need to retire some of the older ones from the bedroom floor line-up.

Running (Wakefield HS Track) 48:48 [3] 5.0 mi (9:46 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 4

Today was a ride day, but it is raining!! Yeah!! And since I would be too much of a fraidy cat riding on damp roads, I opted for a run. Decided that the softer track was better than the streets, and it was despite the monotony.

I wasn't sure how much I felt like doing, but I managed to run 20 laps without stopping. For the last five laps, I ran the curves hard and coasted on the straights. Breathing hard at the end. Liking the damp, cooler weather though.

220 223 223 224
221 223 226 227
229 227 231 230
231 229 233 222
227 229 227 227

Trail Run (Wakefield Park) 1:06:00 [3] 5.5 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 4

Saw an orthopedic today about my hands and elbows. He gave me an injection in each wrist and said my hands would be numb for a little bit. I asked if I could go for a run, and he said as long as I wasn't running on my hands. Well, that remained to be seen.

I was worried about twisting my ankle like last time, but nothing close to a stumble. Glad I didn't because my right wrist is very painful now that the numbness has worn off.

Walked about 15 minutes of this - ran about 10, then walked 2 or so. Was struggling with breathing at the end - lots of blowing things in the air. But, I am happy to have gotten a workout in.
