Biking 15:00 [1]

Today was one of those events which helps to pay for the timing toys I buy... VentureQuest - I get paid for timing, and also the rental of epunches and controls. Not too shabby for a fairly low key day for me, albeit a long one.

Anyway, Ironman (Jon Torrance, but some of the other workers were referring to him as Ironman) spent the night with me (and Roger). We were leaving the house at 6:30 AM SHARP, and left at 6:31:30. No time to stop for donuts, but I made up for it with lots of so-so pizza later.

Since I needed to put the bike rack on to take Jon's bike, I decided to take my bike as well. I figured it would come in handy to get me to the bathroom and back in a timely fashion. So, I rode it around a while and also visited the bathroom about 8 times during my 11 hour day. :)

I had also hoped to get the visiting bike shop to loosen my pedals for me, so I could put other ones on, but they left right after the start and I didn't get it done.

Jon did get their help in fixing his gears right before the start, and he was off. The race format included some actual orienteering sections, playing into Jon's hands. He started well, and had stiff competition from Petr Minar (another regular at orienteering meets). It didn't end quite so well for Jon. You'll have to read his log for the rest of the story.

For me? It was a great day!! Fairly low key, beautiful weather, and only one character who finished and left without downloading.

Trail Run (Fountainhead) 1:37:00 [3] 8.0 mi (12:07 / mi)
shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

Met Jim at Fountainhead to hand off epunches and controls for tomorrow's VentureQuest. Plan was intentional to make sure I ran at least one day.

Four miles out and back on the blue trail. Maybe a bit ambitious, but I didn't fade too horribly.

Beautiful morning!

Mile splits: 1349 1211 1211 1119 1007 (100 break) 1206 1245 1239

Wore Swede-O on right ankle - have to remember to wear a higher sock, otherwise it worked well. Ice Bugs a bit heavy, but I knew that the trail would be very dry, and I wanted a little more traction, especially going downhill.

Feeling sad that I am not at the Boulder Dash.

Misc 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

This week was break week for BC, so I joined 5 others for an informal session, which turned out to be very formal.

Ab work, squats, lunges, high knees, etc.

Nope, it doesn't make me want to go back for real. Though, I may break out THE DVD sooner rather then later.

Running (Home to bike trail) 15:05 [3] 1.5 mi (10:03 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

A warmer day than it has been of late, but a workout was in order. Decided on an hour, and headed for the track for a softer surface. The sunny side of the track was too warm though, so after 1 lap, I headed for the bike trail instead.

Started out too fast and my lungs reminded me that they were a bit iffy. Decided to press on for 15 minutes, then alternate 15 minutes walking with 15 minutes running.

Walking (Trail to Glen Carlyn) 15:30 [2] 1.1 mi (14:06 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Walked on the hillier, but shadier Four Mile Run trail (paved).

Running (W&OD) 14:26 [3] 1.6 mi (9:01 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Lungs feeling better after the asthma meds had a chance to kick in, so I tried to run a little harder. I did get two light breaks of 30 seconds each, so that helped. Splits were 444 423 419. Those last two each had a break, and I think they are a little short of 1/2 mile.

Walking (Back home) 14:00 [2] 0.9 mi (15:34 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Back up the school hill to the house.

Knees and hips are a little sore, but nothing too much out of whack.

Tomorrow, maybe a bike ride.
