Running race (Parks Half Marathon) 2:14:30 intensity: (34:00 @3) + (1:40:30 @4) 13.1 mi (10:16 / mi)
slept:4.0 shoes: Saucony Blue 4

This was a point-to-point race from Rockville, Maryland to Bethesda, Maryland. I would have to say, for a mostly paved race, it was an excellent one. I would do it again.

Most likely the ideal weather conditions (50s F to start) contributed to my good feelings about the race. But the course was also very enjoyable for what I consider to be a road race. It was on roads for the first 2.5 miles, then it was on fairly wooded paved trail. Any hills were generally tolerable. About 2 miles from the end it switched to unpaved/gravel trail which was slightly uphill the whole way. Upon reaching a long tunnel going under Bethesda, I knew the finish line was near. I popped out of the tunnel, took a left, then a right on the road, and sprinted to the finish.

I had to walk some of the last three miles, but ran everything up to 10 miles. Splits: 1024 926 1001 1030 1019 1003 957 955 955 1007 1103 1041 1158

Decided to "run" this race on Thursday. If I can't train myself into shape, maybe I can "race" myself into shape. Or something like that. Sarah (2:25:39) and her sister Nicole (1:59:52) also ran the race.

Running (Neighborhood to W&OD) 19:30 [3] 2.0 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

To train or not to train, what a dilemma.
Beautiful out, but with 5:30 dinner plan, an easy decision would have been to skip a run. But, instead, I skipped out of work early.

Breathing was difficult, but I guess I was moving along pretty well out of the box.

Walking 13:49 [1] 1.0 mi (13:49 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Walked the next mile on the W&OD from .5 mile to 1.5 mile.

Running (W&OD) 9:47 [3] 1.0 mi (9:47 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Had a long wait at the light, then off to run again. Going into a head wind, and having a problem catching my breath. Splits were 445 and 502

Walking (W&OD) 13:40 [1] 1.0 mi (13:40 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Walked the next mile. Turned around at the caboose.

Running (W&OD) 23:30 [3] 2.5 mi (9:24 / mi)

Concentrated on getting a deep breath. Splits were 444 444 442 431 445. Long light break near the end of the 431.

Walking 11:00 [1] 0.6 mi (18:20 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Up one of my many choices of a hill, around the school, and home.

Running (Car dealer to home) 33:30 [3] 3.3 mi (10:09 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Out the door at 6 AM to drop the car off at the dealer. Just routine maintenance, or at least I hope so...

Very humid out - little bit of rain overnight. Yucky, but no sun at least.

Ran the usual way home, but I got confused in the dark and had to ask someone to make sure I was going the right way.

Back home before 7, and showered and at work on time (730). A very good start to the day.

Walking 12:00 [1] 0.75 mi (16:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Walked the rest of the way home from the bottom of the Columbus Street hill.
