O Training (Greenbelt) 1:30:00 [2] 5.5 km (16:22 / km)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Kris suggested a trip to Baltimore to see a quilt exhibit to Peggy and me . I invited my mom to join us. We had a nice tour, and then lunch afterwards.

Then it was off to Greenbelt for a Sunday (instead of Saturday) Summer Short Series event. The exercise was a Memory O, and we hung 12 bags. I took the closest circle of 5. After initially asking that Kris and Peggy check my bags when coming in from their bags, I decided that I could manage it. Well, a trail was missing on the way to 1, so I went too far and found a shallow reentrant running the same direction that the ditch I was looking for did. I debated if I was in the correct location. I relocated to the main trail, found the trail off to the left the second time (though not the missing trail), and I hung the bag and went on to 2. A good part of the ditch was covered in downfall, so I agonized here as well. After coming in from the trail, I hung this one as well.
Then 10 was next - wet ditch. Well, nothing was really wet, and there wasn't much of a ditch. After attacking twice from different directions, I decided not to leave the bag, and went onto the next 2. No problems with those. Into the finish, and when Peggy got back, I went out with her to hang the bag at 10 - in the same place I was to begin with. I should have trusted myself more...
After a short rest, I did the short loop. I did not look at the map at all for the 4 that I had already been to. I messed up #3 but managed to find it after picturing the map in my mind.
I picked up controls 1-2-3 after I got back. I looked closely for the missing trail, but it has been erased.
Very warm day at 100 F, but it seemed better in the woods.
An excellent day with family, friends, quilting, and orienteering.

Oh, and despite finding a tick on me when I got home, it was a great day!

Note
weight:185lbs

My weight...ignoring it, i.e., not weighing myself, is not an effective weight control method for me. Though, I didn't really need the scale to prove the fact that my size 18s are too tight.

I am also not sleeping well again, but I have been trying to avoid taking a sleep aid each night.

Biking (W&OD Falls Church/home) 1:13:30 [2] 14.0 mi (5:15 / mi)
shoes: Bike shoes

Dinwiddie to George Mason to Four Mile Run Trail to Glen Carlyn. Picked up W&OD there out to Lee Highway. Busy through Bluemont. Was going to turn around at Lee Hgwy, but the light was in my favor, so I continued on. Busier through Falls Church, and I always forget about all of the road crossings. So, when I got past Oak, I turned around. Enough for the first time out in a while anyway.

Came home all on the W&OD, into Barcroft Park, and then up the Culpepper ST hill. Had to walk the bike up the steeper part.

Out was ~6.8 miles in 3723, and return was ~7.2 miles in 3612.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 1.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

At Ted and Darcy's for some sprint training. Jogged up to the start of Sprint 1 with Darcy, and then to the start of Sprint 2. Walked up the hill.

O Training race (Sprint 1) 8:13 [4] *** 1.2 km (6:51 / km)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

Started a little after Heidi, who started a little after Peggy. Caught Heidi a few controls from the end, and finished a few seconds behind Peggy. Had the advantage of Heidi reading the fence on the way to #4 correctly otherwise I would have finished well behind them. I was really confused otherwise.

Wanted to walk a few times, but kept pushing.

O Training (Sprint 2) 47:30 [3] *** 3.48 km (13:39 / km)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

This sprint involved controls in the woods. I managed to screw up 13 pretty badly. Visited 14 thinking it was 13. That messed me up going from "13" to 14. Eventually found 14 again which is when I realized that it looked the same as "13" and I hadn't done 13 yet. Back out and into the area of 13 twice again before I found it. Then back to 14 for the third time. One last control after that. Was on 10 min/k pace before that fiasco.

Oh well, the courses, the company (Heidi, David, Eddie, Nadim, Peggy, Max, Io, Tim, and Roger), and the food was excellent.

Max came in and declared "I'm poopy." Nadim said "I'll change you." Max pointed to Roger and said "You!" Too funny.
