Event: QOC: Wheaton

Orienteering race (Wheaton Red) 2:07:43 [3] *** 7.1 km (17:59 / km)
shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

Back to padding my training log with poor O runs. Actually, it really wasn't all that bad apart from the 14 minute error on #2 - I really have to wonder if it was in the right location. Some other more minor issues - like the classic (for me) heading out of #1 sure I was on my compass in the correct direction.
Wheaton is not the best summer time park, and once I got out of the greener areas at the beginning of the course things went better -except for thinking I had gone much further than I had on the way to 9, and messing up 11 a bit...
Passing back by the finish on the way to #5 (about 50 minutes into the course), I sat down at the download station, had a GU, water, and chatted with Heidi. Got to #5 and realized I had left my epunch on the table. Went back for it. Wondered why I didn't quit then...but back to #5 again. What made this especially fun was running along the dog park fence in full view of people sitting on the benches.
Anyway, at #8, I considered quitting, but talked myself into continuing. I knew Heidi was waiting to be relieved, but I figured someone would come along to help people download, and someone did.
Wore my new IceBug shoes and am very happy with them.

Misc 1:00:00 [2]
slept:4.0 shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Good session under the garage cover. More pushups, Burpees, Body Shapers, and jj. Some ramp running, squats, and butt exercies.

Slept poorly - up like 6 times to the bathroom. We had to get the police to come to the school/park behind the house and stop a work crew who was still out there at 10:30 PM grading and laying sod in the dark. The backup beeping was driving us nuts!

Walking warm up/down (Treadmill) 14:00 [1] 1.0 mi (14:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

I have off today - even got to use sick leave instead of annual - because they have applied the smelling polyurethane (sp?) stuff to the gym floor. And since my office is inside the old locker room, inside the gym, conditions are such that I got to go home yesterday at 11, and I am off today. Yeah!! Even if it is raining, yeah!!

So, I decided to get a little run in after BC. Waited about 45 minutes and then headed to the basement. No, I didn't change my outfit - though I did have a new shirt on which I got on sale at LL Bean yesterday before getting my haircut. Yes, the fluff is gone! Thank goodness!

Running (Treadmill) 50:25 [3] 5.0 mi (10:05 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

After warming up for .5 mile, I started aroung 5.7 mph, and then I was able to move it to 6.0 mph and stay there. Did stop once to turn off the overhead lights and ran in the dark. Good exercise in balance. Weird though because I bob side to side and the treadmill screen appears to be moving also. Kind of makes me dizzy if I look at it too long. Same outfit. :)

slept:6.0 shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Squats, lunges, bicep and arm work with bands, some short runs including up the garage steps once. Nothing spectacular, but a good session.

Nice morning - it brought up a discussion on what the criteria was going to be for going inside the gym this winter. Pretty amusing how different we are - and the fact that we were discussing this in August.

The usual jogging to warmup, stretch, jj, split into two groups. Shoulder presses then over to the garage ramp for drop sprints up the ramp intertwined with squats and lunges and stuff. Walls sits and lateral raises and ending with lots of crunches. I hung in there for 100 crunches and then had to switch to my variations - situps, leg lifts, flutter kicks, and scissors.

Good session, and though it was starting to rain, the humidity was less oppressive than yesterday.

Running (Wakefield HS Track) 45:00 [3] 4.6 mi (9:47 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

I think this was the first time all summer that it was below 80 degrees at 5 PM. Some pent up energy, so I strapped on my running shoes and out the door to check out the fresh meat on the local high school teams - practicing today were cross country, field hockey, football, and marching band.
Warmed up and then did 8 x ~200 with ~200 jog in between. ~200 because all laps were done in lane 6. Splits were: 313 (to track) 241 242 244 238 then half laps were 100 142 54 142 57 143 56 136 52 143 58 147 57 150 101 finished with 254 249 251 241.

Walking (Walk back home) 7:00 [1] 0.45 mi (15:34 / mi)

Misc 20:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Got there about 10 minutes early and warmed up on the artifical field - running back and forth - each round trip around 1 minute x 9 times. Some stretching, then 15 or 20 pushups (feeling yesterday's effort) and 50 jj.

Falling asleep okay this week but waking up around 3 AM. Maybe I could start quilting again if I did it at 3 in the morning. Nah...

Running 42:30 [3] 4.0 mi (10:38 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Out the trail in the second clump of runners - ran with Debbie and Michelle. A little slower going out, and faster coming back. Good run. And if I thought yesterday morning was humid, today was twice as humid, or so it seemed.

Ankle feels good, though I stepped on the curb funny when I got out of the car and that hurt.

Misc 1:00:00 [3]
slept:5.0 shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

New session of BC staretd today. There were 26 people there - about 8 new ones. Since Chris was the lone instructor, he paired us "old people" (ummm, that is "veterans" Chris) up with a new person. Mine was Anna, who has a bad left knee, so I am not sure how long she is going to last. Impressive upper body though since she was able to knock out 25 regular pushups with no problem.

Anyway, I digress - the workout - lots of pushups, jj, Body Shapers, Burpees, with squats, wall sits, bicep curls, and shoulder presses, planking, and running in between.

Warm, dripping conditions. Damn, I enjoyed being back!!
