Swimming 34:00 [1]

54 laps - 605 617 r5 626 633 r46 632 256

Lifted a ton of boxes at work today, so I think I was pooped from that. I didn't feel worn out, but I couldn't seem to go any faster. May need a haircut as well or should wear the swim cap [I hate wearing it], since my hair has gotten a little long. That has to be worth a few seconds of drag right there. :)

Wearing the boot all day at work the last few days. Pain has decreased about 50%.

Tuesday Jul 29, 2014 #

Swimming 20:00 [1]

A half-hearted 32 laps.

Wearing the boot [edit: no, not in the pool, J-J.]. We'll see if that helps.

Sunday Jul 27, 2014 #

Note

EX2 - Fountainhead - Cranky Monkey MTB - timing

Race canceled - rain, which did not materialize.

Ankle is more painful today than it was when I sprained it April 2013. May have to take the first pain pill which I was prescribed then. What sucks is that I just walked around yesterday. I did not turn my ankle to the side at all, but it hurts!! Agh!!

Walking 45:00 [1] 2.2 mi (20:27 / mi)

Retrospect - so easy after the fact...

Walked on trails at Prince William...

Lame. Pain. Pooh.

Should not have persisted - the aforementioned retrospect.

10 AM

Biking 1:00:00 [1] 10.0 mi (6:00 / mi) +107m 5:48 / mi

Got to work at 5 AM today after dropping Roger at the airport - funeral in Iowa. Since I couldn't check in until after 6, but I started working at 5, I took the extra time to take a longer lunch time ride on a beautiful July day.

Outbound into a strong headwind and that pesky little uphill business which shouldn't be so bothersome. Mostly the headwind.
11 AM

Biking 46:00 [1] 10.01 mi (4:36 / mi) +13m 4:35 / mi

The return trip was so much fun!! I didn't even let a series of jerks on bikes* ruin my fun. Whee!!

*about 6 in a row crowding my lane while passing from the other direction.
4 PM

Misc 2 [1]

Calf thingees x 2 sessions.
Have to say that I was not feeling too hobbled this morning after my run/walk adventure of yesterday. Slight optimism abounds.

Misc 10 [1]

Ten, again. As Lailah would say...that rhymes.

50 sit-ups
50 crunches
30 leg raises

Running/Walking 30:00 [1] 2.2 mi (13:38 / mi)

Bike ride didn't happen today at lunchtime as panned, and since the bike is at work, and I drove home without it, I decided to see how a bit of time on my feet felt.

Four laps around the .55 mile neighborhood loop. Ran the first ~.2 of each loop (2 minutes for the first, and then about 90 seconds for each of the others). Will have to see how this feels tomorrow.
5 PM

Misc 2 [1]

Calf raises morning and evening. Iced after.

Misc 8 [1]

45 sit-ups
30 crunches

Swimming 35:29 [1] 1.38 mi (25:43 / mi)

Saved the swimming until after work so it would serve the double purpose as a cooling activity and cleansing.

10 AM

Biking 27:00 [1] 4.1 mi (6:35 / mi)

Lailah woke up around 7:30, after 10+ hours of uninterrupted sleep, her, not me, though I slept better than the last time. After making a boat, and floating it in the tub, we had breakfast, and then off on the bike with Lailah in the trailer. Out on W&OD to the frog pond. Heard a few frogs, saw lots of turtles. Then back to Shirlington to do the hand off to Sarah and Matt. Roger picked me up there so I wouldn't have to get up the hill with the trailer. What a good guy!
2 PM

Misc 9 [1]

Back to Day 9 after a two day break, yesterday's break was not by design.

45 sit-ups
30 crunches
30 leg raises
38 second plank

Misc 1 [1]

Eccentric calf raises. Haven't done these before.
3x15 with straight leg, and same with bent knee.

Felt this in the outer ankle. Icing now.

6 PM

Swimming 1 [0]

Lunch in Baltimore with my mother, and then we picked up Lailah in Greenbelt. Had time to squeeze in some pool time before it closed at 7. Lailah wasn't as interested in going under water as she was the last time.
7 PM

Biking tempo 12:00 [1] 1.25 mi (9:36 / mi)

Then a couple of laps around the block with Lailah in the trailer.

Biking 50:55 [1] 10.25 mi (4:58 / mi) +75m 4:51 / mi

Took the day off of work. After my appointment with the PA at the orthopedist office, I drove to the closest W&OD parking area and went for a lovely bike ride.

Biking 54:53 [1] 10.22 mi (5:22 / mi) +89m 5:14 / mi

And, back to the car. A bit of a headwind, and I was tiring at the end, but it was just what the doctor (vmeyer) ordered.

Thursday Jul 17, 2014 #

Swimming 31:15 [1] 1.14 km (27:25 / km)

Another day in the sweatshop which is work - no AC and moving a gazillion 20-30 pound boxes = hard, sweaty work. Feeling a bit nauseous, so I bailed early and went to the pool for some laps to dampen the frustration about the lack of AC and to cool off.

50 laps, no rest, though as slow as they were, you might say that I was resting while swimming. I enjoyed myself, so no worries about the speed.

Went back to work and wrote an email to the energy specialist, finally going over the building engineer's head, and to my boss. Will have to see what comes of it. Well, it isn't like I will lose any building services since I already clean my own office bathroom, do the trash removal and all of the sweeping up. I am a central office employee who is stashed in a school building, and I may as well be invisible, so it isn't like I can be treated any worse. And, now I will stop feeling sorry for myself, or maybe when they get the temps in my office lower than 82, and the sweat stops pouring off of me, then I will stop whining. Yes, that is the plan.

Misc 11 [1]

55 sit-ups (maybe 60 since I lost count)
65 crunches
33 leg raises
42 second plank

Wednesday Jul 16, 2014 #

1 PM

Biking 54:00 [1] 10.5 mi (5:09 / mi)

Strong headwind outbound. More fun coming back.

That time of year - lots of box moving, no AC. Mid-day ride was a pleasant escape from the office.
2 PM

Misc 10 [1]

50 sit-ups
50 crunches
30 leg raises
38 second plank

Tuesday Jul 15, 2014 #

4 PM

Swimming 31:14 [1] 1.14 km (27:24 / km)

Lots of box moving at work today, so waited until the end of the day so that swimming and shower were refreshing, especially since the AC has been out at work for the last week. Yesterday, it was 82 in my office. Today, I got a bit of relief, and it was 77 by the end of the day.

Just 50 laps before dinner.

7 AM

Biking 36:07 [1] 7.08 mi (5:06 / mi) +25m 5:03 / mi

Ride to work since Roger had my car. He picked me and the bike up later so that I didn't have to ride home in the heat and/or thunderstorms.
9 AM

Biking 10:26 [1] 1.57 mi (6:39 / mi) +12m 6:29 / mi

Rode to the plumbing supply store for a piece to repair my toilet at work. A little hairy getting across Route 1. Will have to look at the map more closely the next time.

Biking 7:13 [1] 1.19 mi (6:04 / mi) +3m 6:01 / mi

And the return trip. Was more direct coming back but properly no less dangerous crossing where I did.

EX2 - Rocky Gap - Off-Road Triathlon

Swimming 6:00 [1] 0.23 km (26:12 / km)

After standing around in the muggy sun, once almost everyone was accounted for, I went for a little swim in the lake.

4 PM

Swimming 31:00 [1] 1.14 mi (27:11 / mi)

Spent the afternoon waiting for the gas company to finish the inside work, then a nap, then the pool. Feeling tight, no speed, though breathing is totally back to normal from the chest complaint. No inhaler recently.

Fifty laps was enough.
5 PM

Misc 5 [1]

Back is tight, so when 30 felt like enough, I did a Groundhog Day and returned to Day 5. Again!

30 sit-ups
12 crunches
12 leg raises
20 second plank

I am ok with this. Ankle stuff and stretching some after.

Wednesday Jul 9, 2014 #

Biking 1:25:00 [1] 16.0 mi (5:19 / mi)
weight:195lbs

Took the day off to be available to the gas company which is replacing the gas line from the street to the house and also moving the gas meter outside from the basement, the part I needed to be home for. Since I was home anyway, I also scheduled a maintenance visit for the central AC. And, why not invite Sarah and Lailah to come for the day. Figured I would help Sarah with some sewing projects, or I would play with Lailah while Sarah sewed.

Day didn't go exactly as planned...they don't need access to the house until tomorrow, so that will mean another day off, or at least a half day. And, the AC appointment fell apart because I took Lailah off to the pool, but I didn't tell Sarah where the AC unit was inside the house, and the guy picked up on the fact that Sarah wasn't the home owner and wouldn't do the service without the home owner being home. Agh!

At least the trip to the pool was the best one yet with Lailah. She happily launched herself off the side of the pool into my arms, and then she went underwater, on purpose, for the first time! This was after she saw a pre-teen jump off of the diving board while holding her nose. When I explained that holding her nose kept water from going into the nose and asked her if she wanted to try it, she said yes and immediately went under water. She repeated it about 15 more times. Yeah!

Oh, right...this is a training entry...I had a nice bike ride at 8 AM - to the Humpback Bridge and back, and conquered the hill as well.

And, catching a kid flying into the pool at you is hard work. I think my arms will feel it tomorrow. Knees are already sore - water is only 4', so I stay in a crouch position quite a bit. Anyway, the good bits of the day outweighed the frustrating parts, for sure.

Two pics at the end of the day.

Swimming 48:25 [1] 1.83 mi (26:27 / mi)

80 laps - rested less
x x 15 x x 15 x x 16 x x

Misc 7 [1]

Day 7 - again
40 sit-ups
20 crunches
20 leg raises
30 second plank

Then some ankle PT.

Monday Jul 7, 2014 #

Misc 6 [1]

Day 6 - take 2
35 sit-ups
15 crunches
15 leg raises
25 second plank

Wanted to swim today but sore left bicep. Not sure if that was from the extra laps on Saturday or from quilting. Pushing a quilt through the machine can be quite the workout. Anyway, it was a reasonable day for a break.

Sunday Jul 6, 2014 #

9 AM

Biking 1:30:00 [1] 16.0 mi (5:37 / mi)

To work and back, though I didn't go into the building, just like the route. Some extra here and there to get over 15 miles. Thought I would walk up the hill but got some speed on the flat, turned the corner and pedaled like mad.

Another beautiful day with low humidity and temp at 74 when I left the house at 9:30.
2 PM

Misc 5 [1]

Day 5
Going back to Day 5...
30 sit-ups
12 crunches
12 leg raises
20 second plank

That was better. Would be really sad if it wasn't. :)

Saturday Jul 5, 2014 #

Swimming 1:01:29 [1] 2.23 km (27:34 / km)
weight:193lbs

100 laps, first 50 was continuous. Tried to keep the rest to a minimum. Pretty much toast by the end.
x x x x x 36 x 29 x 21 x 24 x 13

4845 for 80 and 1244 for 20 = 6129, I think...

A little bit of yard work this morning, and then was able to locate the 12 additional edge blocks I needed to finish the project. It made my day.

What hasn't made my day is the fact that my foot is back to being very painful a lot of the time.

Friday Jul 4, 2014 #

8 AM

Biking 38:00 [1] 6.82 mi (5:34 / mi) +74m 5:23 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Mostly into the wind, gusting up to 25mph. Brutal. Legs felt like led. Lots of people out enjoying the pleasant temps (70 at the start) and low humidity.

Biking 19:00 [1] 4.41 mi (4:19 / mi) +8m 4:17 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

And the ride home with the wind at my back. Wheeee!!! Even the lights were in my favor.

Biking 7:22 [1] 0.88 mi (8:22 / mi) +34m 7:29 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

And, the slog up the hill. Zig zigging to try to make it easier. It wasn't. But, I made it without stopping, so yeah for me!
10 AM

Misc (Day 11) 11 [1]
weight:189lbs

30 day abs - Day 11
55 situps
65 crunches
38 leg raises
55 second plank

Day 12 is a rest day.

Situps were tough today after seeming easier yesterday. May go back a few days in the program. Better that then quit.

Thursday Jul 3, 2014 #

Swimming 45:51 [1] 1.83 km (25:03 / km)
weight:189lbs

80 laps in the outdoor pool since the pool by the house is closed for 2+ days because of some mechanical issue with the whole school. Was finding it hard to believe that the pool was the same length since I was putting down such good times after feeling blah for so long, but they both claim to be 25 yards.

Will need tinted goggles if I am going to swim outside often.

Rest was minimum except when a lady chatted me up about my waterproof shuffle, which I love, by the way.

x 13 x 18 x 22 x 23 x 16 x 325 x x

Oops, 189 today, not 179...

Misc (Day 10) 10 [1]

30 day abs - Day 10
50 situps
50 crunches

Misc (Day 9) 9 [1]
weight:191lbs

30 day abs - Day 9
45 situps

45 second plank

Remembered to do these before dinner today.

Damn, more wishful thinking...191, not 181. Geez!!

Tuesday Jul 1, 2014 #

Swimming 47:58 [1] 1.83 km (26:13 / km)

x r15 x r41 x r57 x r43 x r18 x x x

80 laps. Still have a little chest rattle and have mastered coughing under water without choking.

Have to thank the husky man in the next lane for keeping me honest. Had to work to stay just ahead of him.

New pool management, rotated from one of the other two county pools. So far not impressed. Sort of unfriendly and took 4 tries to get me logged into the system. Additionally, and I really hate to feel this way, there is something about a morbidly obese pool manager that is not appealing.

Note

Was brushing my teeth this evening when I remembered that I hadn't done the 30 days ab. How many did I need to do today? Well, I was so relieved to see that it was a rest day.

AC at work was five degrees cooler today. Yeah.

Got the T-Shirt quilt basted and started quilting it this evening. Just a little and then ran out of steam.
