Note

My throat started hurting this evening...possibly too much inhaled dust while cleaning house.

Running (Boot Camp loop +) 42:37 [3] 4.5 mi (9:28 / mi)
slept:10.0 weight:180lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

About to blow off another day what with my daughter Sarah arriving at noon. But decided to get at least something in - couldn't face the treadmill, & with temps at 50 though raining, I choose to go outside. Ran in shorts & short sleeves - very comfortable though I am sure I looked like a nut.
Enjoyed the run though dragging at the end so didn't add the extra half mile.
Measured halves on the trail were 430 440.

Note
(rest day)

A very suspect "rest" day - morning obligations, afternoon nap - easing into the new year in style.

Trail Run (Prince William Forest Par) 2:05:00 [3] 10.0 mi (12:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Omni Trail

Well, I ran today for two reasons - 1) I probably won't have a chance to log anything over the next three days - unless my sister and I go 10 rounds; and 2) I was in the way at home while Roger was getting the food prepped for tonight. I wanted to straighten the kitchen... So, when Roger asked if I wasn't going to run, like I had said I was, I knew it was time to flee the house.

The 10 mile loop - beautiful conditions around 40. Trail conditions about 98% perfect. Shorts and long sleeve shirt pushed up to my elbows. Parked at parking lot A so that I could run the Turkey Ridge trail at the end instead of at the beginning.

Running warm up/down 31:24 [1] 2.5 mi (12:34 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:176lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Had Roger drop me off in East Falls Church area after some errands. I knew if I came home that I wouldn't go out.
Easy running and a little walking for 13:18 (~1.25) at the beginning & walked 18:06 (~1.25 mile) at the end. Beautiful day in the 50s - shorts & short sleeve shirt!

Running (W&OD) 45:33 [3] 5.0 mi (9:07 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Pushed hard for 5 miles - though I caught a break at 3.75 in and had to wait 1:20 for the light to change. Splits: 435 439 440 436 433 429 433 849 (mile - a little more than half of this after resting so I ran it hard) 439.

Note
slept:7.0 weight:174lbs (rest day)

My aching muscles and right knee pain tell me that it is a rest day from even a walk. The knee pain can be contributed 50% to too much squatting down today while sorting through boxes of student records. I worked extra hard today to leave my office in good shape for the new year - the schools, including the adminstartive offices (me), are closed until January 3. Yeah!!!!

Off to knock back 4 Advil with a glass of wine. ;)

Trail Run (Hemlock to Bull Run) 2:53:00 [3] 13.6 mi (12:43 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony Omni Trail

Took a friend to the airport, and then had an appointment for a haircut. Gone from work enough of the morning that I figured I may as well take the rest of the day off and get a run in. I used my "use it to use it" leave. :)
Well, the airport trip was easy! But I was stood up for haircut - waited 25 minutes and then left - that was 20 minutes more than my tolerance level usually allows.
Changed and headed to Prince William but had to go with the backup plan for Fountainhead when a 3-4 tractor trailer collision closed down 95.
So, out and back including running the .4 mile in from the closed gate. As usual, I probably should have gone a mile less outbound. Very glad to get out on this beautiful 35 degree day.
Weight after was a temporary 172.
Weight a year ago today was 192 - so, 15 pounds lighter than a year ago...

Running (Boot Camp loop ++) 48:06 [3] 5.1 mi (9:26 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Roger had dibs on the treadmill, and I knew if I waited for him to finish that I wouldn't want to by then. So, I headed outside into the cold - I know, I know, it is all relative. So, I headed outside into the relative cold and the dark, car fume world - low 30s but no wind!! My lungs were really unhappy with the cold & fumes for the first 10 minutes, and then only slightly unhappy from 11-20 minutes, then no issue after that. Here is my route. I got lucky and had to stop at the light coming and going...yea, a rest period!! Good run. Glad I went out into the cold, dark, scary night. :) Half splits were 422 442.
Situps afterwards: 50
Pushups: 10

Oh, yes, bad food day at work - toffee and fudge - needless to say, I don't think I ran it all back off tonight. Oh, well, I'll try for more restraint tomorrow.

Sunday Dec 18, 2005 #

Orienteering race (Riverbend Orange) 51:24 [4] *** 4.1 km (12:32 / km) +165m 10:26 / km
spiked:9/11c slept:8.0 weight:176lbs shoes: Silva K80 2

Dropped down to Orange to avoid the controls by the cliffs - didn't want to tangle with this area with the slippery conditions...a benefit of printing the maps.
Pushed as hard as I could throughout. Won the Orange - didn't really want to do that since I was running down. But I knew that there were some tricky areas which would mess some others up, and that is what happpened... About 5 minutes in errors. Beautiful day - a bit cool, but otherwise very nice. Worked epunching afterwartds.

Trail Run (Prince William Forest Par) 1:58:00 [3] 9.25 mi (12:45 / mi)
slept:5.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony Omni Trail

Ran with Kris on the loop she has been doing. I commented to Kris via email that I thought it was closer to 9.5 than it was to 10 from measuring it in Topofusion. My Forerunner got 9.25 with just a couple small drops, so it may be slightly longer than 9.25 but not too much. Will be interesting to do a second loop for confirmation...
Low 30s at the start - perfect weather for me. Slippery in parts, so it was not a piece of cake. Smoked the road mile (6.8 to 7.8) in under 10. :) Ran up more hills than I would have if I had been alone, but I didn't run all of them. Good performance on the downhills.
New shoes still proving to be good ones - no hot spots, yea!!

Walking (Treadmill) 1:00:00 [1] 4.3 mi (13:57 / mi)

Walking & some light jogging for an hour on the treadmill.
Some stretching beforehand.
Situps: 2 x 50
Pushups: 2 x 10

5 min up & down.
Situps after: 50

Running (Treadmill program) 50:00 [2] 5.15 mi (9:43 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

1 minute each @ 5.6, 6.6, 5.6, 6.0, 7.0 mph x 10.

Tuesday Dec 13, 2005 #

Walking warm up/down (Treadmill) 10:00 [1] 0.65 mi (15:23 / mi)
weight:178lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Running (Treadmill) 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
ahr:146 max:150 shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

After warm up, set speed to 6 mph and ran for 30 minutes straight. Didn't even stop when my ipod went flying off with 20 minutes to go. Switched my dangling headphones to Roger's antiquated Walkman & kept on going... Felt good for a No Advil day.

Note
(rest day)

Another rest day because of after work obligations - maybe just as well since my legs are pooped.

Sunday Dec 11, 2005 #

Note
(rest day)

Left hip sore from yesterday. Left knee was painful running on the flats about the last 5 miles. Not sure if it was related to the fall or not. Spent a good part of the day cleaning and recycling - lots of steps and lifting.

Trail Run (Start @ Hemlock) 4:02:00 [3] 18.0 mi (13:27 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:176lbs shoes: Saucony Omni Trail

VHTRC Fat Ass 50km - not looking like I was going at 6 AM wake up time - looking for any excuse to stay home, but there weren't any really except in my mind. So, off I went. I had planned to run about half of this but did a bit more. Of course, those last two miles I added kicked my butt. Out and back course, so I planned to go out about 2 hours & then return. At 9 miles one way, I knew that was going to more than enough.
Anyway, the temps were in the high 20s at the start, and the trails were snow covered, but not deep. And it wasn't really slippery either. Though I did take one fall when stepping on an ice covered railroad tie.
Ended up being with Lucia most of the time. Good effort & enjoyable outing.

Walking (Treadmill) 45:00 [1] 3.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:7.0 weight:173lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Classic mistake - feel asleep after work. Was going to blow off another day, but got myself down to the basement to the treadmill.
Situps: 50
Pushups: 5

Note
weight:176lbs (rest day)

Bailed for another day - just achy and unmotivated. Tomorrow for sure!

Monday Dec 5, 2005 #

Note
(rest day)

Thought someone was coming to the house at 5:30, so I wasn't going to run tonight. Realized about 6 that she is coming next week. Didn't feel like it by then - so, a rest day. Probably just as well since my right achilles is clicking a little.

Event: QOC: Wheaton

Orienteering race (Wheaton Orange) 1:31:49 [1] 4.2 km (21:52 / km)
slept:8.0 weight:175lbs shoes: Saucony Omni Trail

My daughter, Sarah and I went out on the Orange course together. Walked and talked and had a great time. I think I impressed her because she was happy to see that I was breathing hard up the hills at least.

Trail Run (Fair Hill, Maryland) 2:22:12 [3] 10.5 mi (13:33 / mi)
weight:175lbs

Trail Dawg run advertised as 18K. Actually, measured closer to 17K, but what's a K among friends...Up at 4:30 AM after a couple hours of restless sleep and headed the two hours up the road. Cold and somewhat windy morning - was waiting for Sandy to beg off, but she didn't, so I had to go.
Very enjoyable run. Some parts of the trail wet/muddy & some field running (really windy across these). But an enjoyable run, and Sandy did well in her first trail only run.
TomO was also there - started out with the idea of testing out his calf & decided to do the whole thing.
Spent the afternoon getting leaves up...
