Biking (W&OD Bike Trail) 1:10:00 [2] 13.0 mi (5:23 / mi)

Started out down the big hill - Weeeee!!! The next two miles were pretty slow as I learned just exactly how to get out of the same gear on the back. I kept switching between the top 2 gears, but I finally figured it out. Headed out to Bluemont Park and beyond. The first person on foot I passed I could not get up enough voice to signal that I was passing. So, I used my bell. Eventually, I got over my shyness and was giving an audible.

Peddled steady the whole time and really enjoyed myself. The next morning's body evaluation indicates no additional ache to my right knee.

Note

Annapolis 10 Miler - worn out from the effort last night, so I skipped the race. Did not feel like dealing with the heat, the drive to and from, the parking, the bathroom lines - well, you get the idea...I am a weenie!

Orienteering (Park O) 38:18 [3] 4.05 km (9:27 / km)

Started first since I had the slowest per k time of the 15 or so present at Ted Good's end of the summer event. Only goal was to beat the adventure racers starting 2 minutes behind me. This was done easily since they spent a ton of time working with their compasses. Hey, the map was 1:5000 with great big school buildings scattered around - who needed a compass really!? Good effort.

Orienteering 39:37 [3] 3.07 km (12:54 / km)

The second half of the event saw us go out slowest to fastest from the first event. I went out 4th - 1 minute behind Heidi (finished about 2 minutes behind me earlier) and 1 minute ahead of Peggy (finished 5 minutes ahead of me earlier). Caught Heidi fumbling for #1 and Peggy caught me on the way to #3 but was screwed up with me at #5. I found it first and waved her over. Took the opportunity to follow her as long as possible to #6 which was the long leg. Enjoyable though hot evening. Still 50/50 about running the 10 miler tomorrow.

Note

My knees remain sore after just one workout on the roads on Tuesday. I had no problem while in Wyoming - even on the downhills. So, the paved surfaces are probably the culprit. Can't even resort to the track close to the house since they are redoing the infield and have it closed for a while.

Had to come home and deal with additional car problems - one in shop for accident repair and the brakes on the backup car dies 3 blocks from the house (luckily it is a standard transmission). So, I replaced it that night with a new PT Cruiser.

Running 27:37 [2] 2.75 mi (10:03 / mi)

Paved bike trail and neighborhood streets. Didn't take long for knee pain that was absent in Wyoming to resurface. Half mile splits where available were 444 440 459.

Walking 32:23 [1] 2.0 mi (16:11 / mi)

Walk 1/3 mile during the running portion and then walk the rest. Try to really power up the hills. Right knee is sore again.

Note

Really enjoyed the time in Wyoming. I returned home much less stressed and tired than I returned from Georgia. Despite blisters on the inside of my heels, I feel great.

I did manage to get poison ivy or something on my hand. It was probably on the O shoes I wore in Georgia and transferred to my hand when I put them on in Wyoming.

Mike & Marilee B, Ted G, Eddie B, Brad W, and Randy H let me tag along with them. We played miniature golf a couple of times. It was very entertaining - actually, I was the entertainment part of the time with my bruising style of play...

Finally have a decent run and break 90 minutes. Nancy Koehler on my tail starting 4 minutes behind and catching me at #3. A bit of a bobble at several controls. But she totally hoses 14 and I make back the time I had lost to her.

Walking (Disc Golf Gopher) 2:00:00 [1] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)

Skipped the Superbum event today and just worked the start. Then walked with the disc golf group. Hadn't expected to be out so long - my nose and the top of my ears were fried.
