Orienteering (NA Champs Day 2) 2:04:00 [3] 6.0 km (20:40 / km)

Yucky course if you are prone to gravitating towards green or marshy area or water. If I wasn't in the thick stuff, then I was in the creek or up to my ankles in mud - or if I was lucky, all 3 at one time!! Hoped to move up a spot to second, but was happy to hang onto my 3rd place. Hmmm, is a raging case of PI next?!

Orienteering (NA Champs Day 1 Green) 1:34:00 [3] 6.0 km (15:40 / km)

Not a bad effort. Ended up running way early to vet the electronic controls. Wasn't mentally prepared, but I was happy to be out in the woods during the quiet of the day. Really enjoyed the cliffs & did not lose any time there.

Orienteering (Model Event) 30:00 [2] 2.0 km (15:00 / km)

Did some random controls on the model event map with Sandy. Probably would have done more, but we got tied up helping to get the packets ready... Took the last control first & slid down the steep hill on my butt.

Running (Cleveland MetroPark) 59:00 [2] 5.25 mi (11:14 / mi)

Arrived in Cleveland & stopped and ran on a bike trail. Not a bad effort. Much warmer than I had in my mind that it would be.

Orienteering (South Fork) 1:35:47 [3] 6.2 km (15:27 / km)

Started early before the worst heat of the day & set the standard. Without any of the big guys attending, I managed my first ever Green win - and by 17 minutes!! Thanks, Peggy. And close to being under 15 min per km as the icing on the cake. Did not run much of it & was seldom on trails, but I managed to stay on course except for 2x5 minute errors & screwing up the last contol to take me over 90 minutes. Worked the epuncing the rest of the day. Very enjoyable day - and no cicadas - noise or otherwise. The first hour I was at the park alone was very peaceful.

Running/Walking (4 Mile Run/W&OD) 1:01:00 [2] 5.5 mi (11:05 / mi)

Out of the neighborhood the longer way to the 4 Mile Run Trail to edge of Bluemont Park. Return on the W&OD. On way out, I ran 5-6 minutes & walked 1 minute. Measured distance on return trip of 1/2 mile in 0437 & 1 mile in 0937. Ran out of steam a little at the end.

The blister on the inside of my left heel is hurting again. Seems that the insert is hitting there. Still not sure why after all this time wearing the same/similar model of shoe. I may need to go 1/2 size larger.

I have taken anti-bio for 6 weeks now, with 2 weeks to go. It has done the trick - after 2 years I no longer have lung pain for the first 20-30 minutes of every run. Yeah!!

Misc (100) 5:00 [1]

& 40 pushups.

Weight Thursday am is 184 lbs.

Trail Run (PWNF) 2:08:00 [4] 10.2 mi (12:33 / mi)

Last of the 3 10 mile trail runs, this one held in Prince William National Forest. Felt good and was disappointed that the time was so slow. But the flat running had lots of areas where you couldn't see 3 feet ahead of you becasue of the growth along both sides. And then there were plenty of hills. But enjoyed myself anyway.

Note

The last week has been crazy - worked a 100 mile race from Saturday 5 am to Sunday at 5 pm. Planned to get a run in then, but the rocky trails didn't seem real appealing. Then was totally trashed from the lack of sleep & poor diet, so Monday & Tuesday were a write off.

Note

Had hoped to get a run in this evening, but the yard was calling my name. Actually, it was Roger calling me to come work in the yard...Lots of bending & sweating...

Running (Neighborhood) 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Was supposed to plant seds this evening so had only 30 minutes to run. Decided to push as hard as I could the whole time. Felt pretty good - no real aches or pains after the WP experience.

Misc 3:00 [1]

20 pushups & 40 situps x 2

Today's weight is 185 lb - same as a week ago.

Orienteering (Aborted Green Y) 45:00 [1] 1.5 mi (30:00 / mi)

Yesterday I started early & it was to my advantage because there was still water at the one water stop. Today starting early was a disadvantage because the Green Y maps had Green X clue sheets, and vice versa. Some people figured it out sooner than I did, but since I stumbled on the control number for #1, though it wasn't where it was circled on my map, I went onto #2. Only after circling the area numerous times, and finally have about 5 others there, one with the opposite map did we figure it out. Aghhh!!! The worst part was when I restarted, it took me longer to find the first control with the correctly circle map that it took me the first time.

Orienteering (West Point) 2:23:37 [2] 6.0 km (23:56 / km)

Did much walking after restarting. Met up with Barb Dominie on way to #2. Thank you Peggy for getting there first. Then Barb & I decided to team up and finish this damn course!! She also had an aborted attempt with the wrong map. But after struggling up the mountain to #5, we got #6, had problems with #7 and turned for home without finding it. What a frustrating day. At least the epunching was going more smoothly today.
Huge blister from yesterday, and only worsened today, on ball and big toe of right foot.
I have to say that I was way more disappointed with my error yesterday than with the map fiasco today...the cadets treated me like gold & were very appreciative of my assistance.

Orienteering (West Point) 2:48:00 [3] 8.0 km (21:00 / km)

Course distance was 6.5 k, but I had a bonus control. I was having an excellent event until #9 - spent 51 on this shortest leg. Finished & then sat right done to help with the epunching & a problem created when a GO control was sent to the start and used as a start control. Can't say I haven't done something similar to that myself.

Running/Walking (To start) 12:00 [1] 1.0 km (12:00 / km)
