Orienteering (Radio O) 2:00:00 [1] 4.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Spent about 4 hours looking for transmitters in preparation for the actual event tomorrow. Probably out closer to 5 hours over 2 sessions. Did lots of walking and standing around listening for were I wanted to head to next.

Trail Run 35:00 [1] 3.5 km (10:00 / km)

In Oxford, OH for the 2nd IARU Region II ARDF Championships (Radio O). Stretched my legs on the practice map on the Miami of Ohio campus. Map said 1:10000, but actually looks to be 1:7500. Wondered why everything was coming up so quickly... Only 6 women competing in the 4 age groups - one 11 year old (F19), and 1 F21, 2 F35, 2 F50. I am in F35 though had meant to be in F21. Turns out the other woman in F35 is a former Russian champion.

Running/Walking (Wakefield track) 1:02:00 [2] 5.0 mi (12:24 / mi)

Ran down to track and then ran a lap and walked a lap (total 22 laps in lane 6 unadjusted) then walked back home.

Breathing tight throughout, though I felt marginally better after 30 minutes. Maybe need to switch one of my medications from night to morning so that I have more benefit throughout the day.

Running/Walking (W&OD Trail) 1:24:00 [2] 7.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

I was a total slug all weekend - only left the house to pick up the paper. Watched lots of golf and read trashy books. Thank goodness Roger is back home to silently shame me back outdoors.

Ran after work. Had thunderstorms earlier in the day, and the air was a little close. Started out to Bluemont Park doing Run 4/Walk 1. Did 2 sets but then changed to running a half mile and walking a half mile. Felt better after the switch - who wouldn't with all that walking. Went a half mile further in one direction than I usually do. Measured halves were 4:59 7:15 4:51 7:24 4:41 7:00 4:43 4:37 6:55 4:32. Walked the last mile. Getting cooler on the return trip with a light drizzle about 10 minutes from home. Breathing pretty tight for about 75% of the time.

Running (Warmup) 20:00 [1] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)

Warmup before 8K.

Running race (DCRRC Belle Haven 8K) 49:36 [4] 8.0 km (6:12 / km)

Not one of my best times but happy to break 10 min miles. Breathing a little tough on the way back. Had to walk a bit. No knee problems. Poison ivy is full blown on right hand and it is quite sore and swollen. Hope to sleep better tonight after a good run.

Monday Jul 21, 2003 #

Note

Slept really well last night after my weekend of fun and sun. Have started breaking out with poison ivy on my right arm. Pretty sore all over, but I have no injuries.

Orienteering (French Creek) 3:08:25 [3] 5.0 mi (37:41 / mi)

DVOA Long-O Championships. Ferns, rocks, ferns & rocks - ugh!! Huge mistake on #2 and then on #12 because map overprinting was a bit off. Should have checked the clue sheet for what I was actually looking for, but didn't realize the circles were a bit off until discussion after the fact. Not much chance to run, but felt pretty good overall. A little slow on the climbs, but they weren't killing me.

Mowing/Yard 1:00:00 [1]

The yard got the works today - pulled weeds ,edged, trimmed, whacked, lopped, and mowed. Took 8 hours, but I don't want to pad my times with that many, so I put just 1 hour. As sore as I am, I feel like I ran a marathon!

Wednesday Jul 16, 2003 #

Note

Meant to run today but took a nap this afternoon instead. Worn out from helping to unload 3 skids of computers at work today.

Tuesday Jul 15, 2003 #

Walking (Treadmill) 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Warmup and cooldown.

Running (Treadmill) 42:00 [2] 3.25 mi (12:55 / mi)

Too hot for me outside. Breathing a bit tight today and was coughing later in the evening. Left knee a little sore at start but then okay.

Monday Jul 14, 2003 #

Note

Rest day - pulled weeds for 90 minutes.

Orienteering (Radio O) 2:24:00 [2] 3.0 mi (48:00 / mi)

Some more Radio-O in Atlanta. Did much better today - easier 80 meter transmitters.

Walking (Control Pick up) 40:00 [1] 1.0 mi (40:01 / mi)

Picked up a radio control and a regular control from the Score-O course. Radio gear about 15 pounds. Walked all the way back...

Orienteering (Radio Orienteering) 3:30:00 [2] 5.0 mi (42:00 / mi)

Fumbled around after finding the first control easily. Started thinking too much. Muddy and numerous creek crossings. Atlanta weather not too oppressive and those creek crossings felt refreshing.

Running/Walking (Treadmill) 1:06:00 [2] 5.0 mi (13:12 / mi)

Cranked up the tunes and climbed onto the treadmill. It was either that or 91 degrees outside at 5 pm, and I figured I didn't need to do that 2 days straight.

Total time includes 10 min warmup and 5 minute cool down. Ran for the rest from 4.5 mph to 5.7 mph increasing by .1 each minute and then back down. When I got to 5 mph I ran for 15 minutes at this pace. Breathing good.

Monday Jul 7, 2003 #

Running/Walking (W&OD) 1:18:00 [2] 6.0 mi (13:00 / mi)

Headed out to Bluemont Park after the thunder storm came through. It was 80 and icky! I started out well but then labored on the outbound. So, ended up mostly walking. Still managed just under 14 min/mile pace for the all walking portion. Back to house was a bit better. Marked splits were 6:27 6:52 6:56 4:40 5:50 5:25 6:20.

Sunday Jul 6, 2003 #

Running/Walking (High #2 twice) 1:00:00 [2] 4.3 mi (13:57 / mi)

Walked 7 minutes/ran 14/walked 14/ran 14/walked 7. Two times through the program with a cool down and warm up in the middle. Asthma symptoms the first time through, but not the second time.

Running/Walking (Home to Belle Haven) 1:55:00 [2] 10.2 mi (11:16 / mi)

Left the house at 5:30 and mostly ran to Belle Haven Marina and then 2.5 miles beyond. Mostly ran 5 min/walked 1 min. Skipped some of the walks and walked a bit more at the end. Felt pretty good. The end point was the turn around for the July 4th 8k - I worked the water stop there with Roger and then got a ride home.

Wednesday Jul 2, 2003 #

Running/Walking (Bike Trail) 46:00 [2] 4.3 mi (10:42 / mi)

Determined to run today and wasn't going to let the rain give me an excuse. Only a light rain and it felt good. From the house to bike trail to Shirlington. Turned around and followed trail to George Mason DR. Then back to Walter Reed and then home. The measured half miles were 4:22-4:27!! Feeling pretty good - obviously. Walked about 1 mile of it.

Running/Walking (Wakefield track) 1:00:00 [2] 4.75 mi (12:38 / mi)

Ran down to the track and then ran 800 meters and walked 800 meters 4 times (lane 3 unadjsuted). Walked home the long way. Splits were about 5 mintues for the running and 7.5 minutes for the walking. Breathing was a little rough but not too uncomfortable.
