Running 1:04:00 [3] 5.25 mi (12:11 / mi)

Ran to Bluemont Park and back (paved trail). Outbound on the 4 Mile Run Trail (hilly) and inbound on the W&OD (flat). Ended with the big hill behind the house. Stopped and picked up 2 cases of empty beer cans...ugh!!

Running/Walking (Treadmill) 1:00:00 [2] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Should have gone outside but was interested in watching a tv show so headed for the treadmill. Walked at 4 mph with 2 lb hand weights and jogged at 4.5 mph. About 30 minutes of each. Right arch a bit sore.

Running/Walking (Low #2 (Walking)) 20:00 [1] 1.2 mi (16:40 / mi)

Running/Walking (High #2) 30:00 [3] 2.15 mi (13:57 / mi)

Did not have to hang on when it got to 6 mph today.

Running/Walking (High #2) 30:00 [2] 2.15 mi (13:57 / mi)

Treadmill program up to 6 mph.

Running (Outside!) 43:40 [3] 4.05 mi (10:47 / mi)

Breathing labored until about 20 minutes into run. Half miles were 5:25 5:03 5:15 5:17.

Walking (After run) 25:30 [2] 1.75 mi (14:34 / mi)

Walked the last bit home. Went further than I thought I was able to when I started out. Good to be outside.

Mowing/Yard (Leaves, Leaves, Leaves) 2:00:00 [2]

Did almost 5 hours of nearly non-stop leaf patrol. Counting it as 2 hours of exercise. This included bending, lifting, raking, and pushing the lawn vacuum (thing weighs a ton). My butt is killing me today.

Wednesday Dec 18, 2002 #

Running/Walking (Treadmill) 50:00 [3] 3.6 mi (13:53 / mi)

Warm up about 5 minutes. Then take speed from 3.5 to 5.5 mph back to 4.5 running a minute for each .1 mph increment. I like this routine because I don't seem to struggle as much with my breathing. Walked the last 11 minutes at 4.5-4.0 mph pace.

Tuesday Dec 17, 2002 #

Running/Walking (Medium #1) 40:00 [2] 2.5 mi (16:00 / mi)

Up to 4.5 mph with up to 10% climb. Walked when it was 4 mph or slower.

Orienteering (Great Falls, VA Red) 1:50:00 [3] 5.0 mi (22:00 / mi)

Breathing iffy to first control - lots of climb right out of the start. Got better after that. Did better than last week - though better footing helped. Though there was more climb...

Running/Walking (Treadmill) 30:00 [2] 1.75 mi (17:09 / mi)

Good workout for me. Did a program that changed the incline.

Thursday Dec 12, 2002 #

Running/Walking (Treadmill) 40:00 [2] 2.75 mi (14:33 / mi)

Worked speed up from 3-5 mph over 28 minutes. Then walked the last 12 minutes at 4 mph with 2 pound hand weights. Felt good. Wore shoes a little looser and arch did not ache.

Tuesday Dec 10, 2002 #

Running/Walking (Treadmill Program Low #2) 40:00 [1] 2.25 mi (17:47 / mi)

Took my new shoes out for a spin. Did the 20 minute program twice - highest speed 4.5 mph. Breathing felt good.

Orienteering (Fran Uhler (Bowie)) 2:10:00 [3] 5.0 mi (26:00 / mi)

Like everywhere else on the east coast, there was snow on the ground. I was one of the first ones out and there were no tracks. Sam L. caught up with me about control 7. We were basically together for another 3 or 4 controls. Then I was on my own again. Tried to make my own choices and avoid just following the tracks. Lack of training showing - totally pooped at the end. Enjoyed being out in the woods!!

Believe advertised distance was 6.8k. I wore the Timex Speed/Distance watch (the thing that measure the distance using GPS technology). Disclaimer: I did not look at the reported distance traveled at any time while I was on the course. The distance I traveled was 9.227 km. Appears to be pretty accurate based on my route choices. Had only one suspect measurement, but I could not recheck it since I have already cleared my watch.

Misc (Shoveled Snow) 1:00:00 [3]

Shoveled our walk and 4 neighbors. My task master requires that the entire sidewalk be cleared - none of that one shovel width slacking allowed. :)
