Note

Another long nap after work - seems like I have had a nap every day for the last couple of weeks, and I am not feeling more perky.

Sunday Jun 25, 2006 #

Note
(rest day)

Spent about 90 minutes pulling weeds out of the moist earth - about 2.5" of rain over the last two days.

Running (C&O Canal/Carderock) 33:00 [2] 2.75 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Met Sarah for a run @ 7 AM. Right knee painful, left hip sore, so I took 4 Advil. Sarah gave it an excellent try, but her stomach was iffy, and then she got a stich... I think she tries to run too soon after getting up and this doesn't work for her.

Sarah and me after we were done. Note to self - suck it in!

Walking 44:00 [1] 2.75 mi (16:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

We walked the return trip. I took some pictures. I always wanted to make a quilt with a house reflected in water.

Lots of "wildlife" - This toad before we started, a little turtle swimming, a big snapping turtle, 2 herons - one in flight. There was rumor of a beaver swimming, but we didn't see it.

Woke up sore and stiff from yesterday, so decided today was a good day to take off, especially since I am running with Sarah in the morning.

Running race 17:03 [4] 3.2 km (5:20 / km)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Got up with the alarm today and piddled around getting ready & looking at Vadim's pictures from the RAAM finish line. Grabbed my running shoes, just in case, but then decided to check my email account that Boot Camp sends messages to. Damn, a Fitness Test for today - the second this month - which is how it is supposed to be, but hasn't been...

I knew I didn't have it today. Last time, I thought I didn't have it but did. Today, I knew I didn't have it and didn't. Got smoked by Christine, who has improved greatly since April and finished in 1515. The rest of the faster runners were out of town, or skipped on purpose.

Hung on and didn't quit when I really wanted to.

Spilts:
June 22: 158 207 208 211 213 214 212 201 (1703)
June 2: 200 202 202 203 203 203 203 200 (1616)
April 14: 201 205 204 205 203 208 207 154 (1627)
Jan 6: 204 211 208 208 212 210 211 200 (1703)

Running 12:30 [1] 1.25 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Warmed up before BC started.

Misc 20:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

A cool down lap, and then 2 more encouraging Ursala on to the finish.

Pushups in 2 minutes: 35 regular, 10 girlie, 7 more regular
Situps in 2 minutes: 95

Running (W&OD) 38:00 [3] 4.0 mi (9:30 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Woke up late again. Got there just on time to find out that only Teresa was there - ugh! already grumpy since I had overslept, and didn't need that as well.
She half assed warmed us up for 10 minutes and then we were to run out 15' & back for a total of 30'. Couldn't stand the thought of listening to her anymore, so waved her off when we were called to turn aaround and went a mile total further. I hate feeling like I am disrespecting Teresa, but she really irritates me. We have been told that she is here only this month and then will go to her own site. Hopefully, that is the truth, and her own site isn't our site...
Anyway, the splits were
(out) 459 444 459 450
(back) 442 437 432 431
the last two miles were the best because I was warmed up by then & breathing well. I wish I could have kept going, but I am donating blood this morning and had to get back.

Note

Blood count was too low to donate this morning. The first time in 30 years that this has happened. Just as well since the RC was horribly inefficient. At the rate they were going, it was going to take 2+ hours to donate blood. And to make it worse, they had rap type music on at an overly high volumn.
Yes, I know I was grumpy this morning, but the music and the wait were a bit much even if I had been my "normal" "sunny" self. :)

Misc 30:00 [2]
slept:5.0 shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

About 30 minutes of BC and then a run. Lots of JJ, Mountain Climbers, jumping rope.

Running 18:00 [2] 1.75 mi (10:17 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Ran near the end of class - was supposed to be around 25, but they turned around sooner. Just as well, since I needed to leave a little early.

Misc 34:00 [2]
slept:6.0 weight:180lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

A weekend of too much food and wine, and too little sleep, caught up with me this morning. Butt was dragging during the run. Also wheezing. So, I was at the tail end of the group again.
Other stuff was arm related.

Running 26:00 [2] 2.6 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Run was the loop from BC, to school, to Walter Reed, and back. As I said above, I was dragging & wheezing...

Note
slept:6.0 weight:177lbs

Needed to move our compost piles out of the woods (undeveloped park land) behind our house, so spent ~4 hours loading up and unloading into the side yard. Not all done, but it may be enough to keep us from getting a citation for now.

Running (Burke Lake x 2) 1:49:00 [3] 10.7 mi (10:11 / mi)
slept:4.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Picked up Ida - she lives close by & I met her at Boot Camp - and drove to Burke Lake. We parked in the boat ramp parking lot, and I was a little confused at where the trail started, so we ran the shoreline trail to the paved part near the dam. Nicer, and less crowded through this area.
I had to walk for about 3 x 1 minute during each loop. Good run.

Running 11:30 [2] 1.15 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Got to BC a little early and ran around the edge of the park.

Misc 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Warm up run, stretching, 50 jj. Then rotations:
30 partner situps, 30 bicycle x 3
30 reverse crunches, 30 flutter kicks (4 count) x 3
1 minute pushups, 15 Body Shapers x 3
50 jj, .2 mile run, 1.25 minutes of elbows & toes x 3
15 bench dips, 20 bicep curls with band x 3

It seems like I am leaving something out...great session. I give today an A.

Misc 1:00:00 [3]
slept:4.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Warm up .4 miles, stretching, 40 jj, then over to the artifical field - divided into 4 groups.
Jump rope (or jumping jacks) for 1.5 or 2 minutes - I did JJ.
Lunges, pulsing lunges, JJ 2 minutes, repeat x 3.
Then squats, pulsing squats, jj x 3.
Then 4 corners each for 2 minutes - bunny hop, side shuffle, high knees, and something else.
Finished with 50 crunches, then I switched regular situps & did about 80 more while they did more crunches.
Tough session - very enjoyable!

Misc 30:00 [1]
slept:5.0 weight:178lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Played hookey from BC and work yesterday. Got up 10 minutes late today.
.2 mile slow warmup, light stretching, then run to track (1.6 miles), jog 400 meters, then side shuffle, high knees, lunges, steps. Pushups x 1 minute, flutter kicks, crunches, pushups x 1 minute. Run 800 meters, then Ranger Run 1 mile the back way back to parking.

Running 29:00 [2] 3.1 mi (9:21 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

Ran 1.6 to the track (16:00), 800 meters (4:30), 1 mile Ranger Run (8:30).
The run to the track was difficult because my breathing wasn't warmed up - had to walk even before I got to the hill. This is where I paid for getting there later and not warming up more. Everyone in the group except Maggie finished ahead of me. Discouraged that I wasn't doing better, though I know I shouldn't be too hard on myself.
The other runs were much better.

Ankle a little sore from Sunday.

Orienteering race (Beer Chase Loop A) 30:36 [5] *** 3.13 km (9:47 / km)
shoes: Silva K80

First loop of the annual Beer Chase. As usual, I downed my beer faster than any others and was off in the direction we were pointed in. Others passed me by while I jogged along, waiting for Darcy. We stayed together the rest of the way. Pushed the first loop pretty hard, coasted a bit on the second loop, and pushed again on the third loop.

Orienteering race (Beer Chase Loop B) 40:07 [3] *** 3.22 km (12:28 / km)
shoes: Silva K80

Made the only navigational error on control 7 of this loop.

Orienteering race (Beer Chase Loop C) 19:01 [4] *** 1.66 km (11:27 / km)
shoes: Silva K80

Upon turning over map, Darcy & I were disappointed to see that this loop was going to require actual navigation, instead of the easy controls the third loop usually has. Sucked it up and concentrate on finishing strong. Pass some people in the woods. Turns out they were finishing the course which was just loops B & C. The next closest people to us were 10 minutes ahead...
I did trip and bend ankle over on the way to the last control. Shook off the pain and limped to the finish.
Finished 21 out of 31.
Good race, good company, good day.

Misc 25:00 [1]
weight:178lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

.4 mile warmup, stretching, 2 x 10 pushups, 2 x 20 jj, .2 mile run, ??, then run listed below...

Running 35:00 [1] 2.8 mi (12:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

So, today turned out to be the "long" run, but I wasn't feeling it, so I hung back with Shawn & then cut off a bit of the route.

Misc 30:00 [2]
slept:5.0 weight:179lbs shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Another unsettling session. "Long" run was preceded by lots of warm up, jj, donkey kicks & pulses.

Running 30:00 [2] 2.75 mi (10:55 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Adverstised long run turned out to be the last 30 minutes with stops in between for lunges & squats. Teresa said that was time for 3-4 miles for the 1 & 2 level groups - yeah, right. Not wanting to get more frustrated, especially with stopping and doing stuff on the side of the trail, I went the other way on my own.

Felt grumpy and sluggish - not sure if one caused the other or not. Usually being ticked off gets me moving faster, but I didn't have it in me today. Walked the long hill by the house, as well as some other parts.

Misc 1:00:00 [2]
slept:6.0 weight:179lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Warm up .8 mile running., warm up, pushups for 2 minutes, bicep curls, 1.5 minute pushups, bicep curls, 1 minute pushups, .4 mile run, jumping jacks while we waited for the others to finish. Then partner stuff with the bands, .4 mile run, band stuff, ab stuff, .2 mile run.

Instructor was Teresa flying solo again. I made a conscious effort to cut her some slack, but I remain unimpressed, especially since she started warming down 10 minutes early, and spends too much time transitioning between exercises. She also comes off as condesending and patronizing when she is trying to be encouraging.
And she chased after me when I left to let me know that she expected me there tomorrow for our long run. Hello!! I am not an attendance problem, and I don't duck anything we do. I don't know how much longer I can stand her.

Running 9:45 [2] 1.0 mi (9:45 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:178lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 1

One mile Ranger Run with about half the group.

Misc 45:00 [2]

Felt like I was dragging this morning & only walked a .2 mile warm up lap. I guess cardio was today's theme - the Ranger Run listed above, jumping jacks, curb step ups, wall hops, squats, pulsing squats, donkey kicks and pulsing, leg lifts.

Monday Jun 5, 2006 #

Running 23:00 [3] 2.6 mi (8:51 / mi)
slept:6.5 weight:180lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

BC included two runs with stuff in between. The first one was 1.6 mile in 14:30, and the second was 1 mile in 8:30. The usual suspects were ahead of me, but I couldn't hold off Crisann on the first loop, and Cristina got me on the second loop. Good to see them improve.

Misc 42:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

.6 mile warmup run, followed by stretching, pushups 2 x 10, the 1.6 mile run, sprints w/ squats in between, 15 pushups, the mile run, band work, and ab work.

Sunday Jun 4, 2006 #

Note

After 6 weekends away from home, it seemed like a good idea to pass on the QOC meet at Mont Alto...a good decision since I seemed to have needed my afternoon nap still. I also got the second guest room totally decluttered.

Running (Carderock) 1:21:00 [2] 6.5 mi (12:28 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

My daughter, Sarah, called last night around 9 to see if I wanted to run in DC this morning. We made a date for 730, and I went to bed. About 15 minutes later it came to me that the Race for the Cure was this morning in DC, and with 45,000 people expected, I didn't want to mess with that. So, we switched to a meeting at Carderock & a run on the canal - much more preferable to me anyway.
Sarah is working on getting in shape and losing 30 pounds. She has even started taking Boot Camp as well, but in Montgomery County.
She set the pace and we walked a little when she needed to.
The rain held off, I got a run in which I probably wouldn't have, and I got to see Sarah. We chatted for about an hour afterwards. An excellent morning!

Running race (Fitness Test) 16:16 [5] 3.2 km (5:05 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Third Fitness Test of the year - goal after the previous one on April 14 was to go 1600 for the next one. Not quite there yet, but I felt good and steady today, and very pleased with the result, another PR.

June 2: 200 202 202 203 203 203 203 200 (1616)
April 14: 201 205 204 205 203 208 207 154 (1627)
Jan 6: 204 211 208 208 212 210 211 200 (1703)

Misc 20:00 [2] 1.75 mi (11:26 / mi)
shoes: Saucony - Big Blue 1

Did about 1.25 mile warm up, and then 800 meter cool down alongside June while she finished her laps up.
And the rest of the FT was in 2 minutes each:
31 pushups (1 more than last time)
87 situps (1 more than last time)

Misc 1:00:00 [2]
slept:7.0 weight:177lbs shoes: Saucony 7 - Banana 2

Sore pecs from the arm work yesterday. Today was a decent session.
Fell asleep last night 15 minutes before the end of the Breakfast Club, a movie that I had never seen before...
Bad food day yesterday continues into today - 5 Hostess cupcakes and 2 Moon Pies over two days. Hopefully, my cravings are over for a while...or at least until I get home and face the box of Moon Pies again.
