Biking (W&OD bike trail) 1:18:00 [1] 13.5 mi (5:47 / mi)

Had resigned myself to a wasted afternoon waiting for Roger's new treadmill to be delivered, but the guys showed up about 25 minutes into the 2-6 pm time period. ..yeah!!

Decided 3 days of pavement running wouldn't be a good idea, so on the bike. Out and back on the trail. Wasted about 4 minutes waiting for lights since the usual bypass was unpassable because the heavy storms last night flooded Four Mile Run.

Good ride. Of, yeah, I made it all the way up the hill at home without stopping!!

Running/Walking (Wakefield HS Track) 55:00 [2] 4.6 mi (11:57 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6 S10

Ran down to the track and then around and around. Actually walked some of the arounds. Lap time in lane 6: 310 (from house) 248 248 256 254 405 (walk) 245 249 350 (w) 246 352 (w) 239 347 (w) 238 350 (w) 236 445(walk home). A little slow but didn't have any breathing issues today. Remembered to take 2 hits before I went out. Sometimes I do one and while waiting for a minute to pass, I get side tracked and forget...

Didn't have the 3 candy bars like yesterday, so had 4 Advil instead - both this morning and this evening.

Weight is still a disappointing 193 - possibly related to my big Big KitKat addiction. Situps 51.

Running (Neighborhood) 32:30 [2] 3.0 mi (10:50 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 5 Men's

Worked the last 2 evenings replacing the walk belt on Roger's treadmill. It didn't solve the problem. Thought I wouldn't get out this evening - what with the heat, the rain potential, dinner in my tummy, and just about any other excuse I could come up with. But my repair frustrations needed to be burned off, so at 8 pm I headed out the door. No Advil, only 1 puff of my asthma medication, and I left the water at home since I didn't expect to go far. Did better than I expected. Only walked .3 of the first 3.3 miles. Stopped for water at the storage facility which I have the entry code to. Breathing very ragged at the end of the running.

Walking (Neighborhood) 29:00 [1] 2.0 mi (14:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 5 Men's

Walked around some to make it an hour total. Pushed as hard as I could without running. Wind was picking up and heat wasn't much of a factor. Glad to get a workout in today - despite the fact that dinner was "repeat"edly reminding me that it was only two hours ago.

Biking (W&OD bike trail to mile 1) 3:00:00 [2] 31.0 mi (5:48 / mi)

Up a little before 7. Two bananas - only 1 with peanut butter, 4 Advil (I think), and 2 puffs, and out the door. Had 32 oz of Gatorade with lots of ice in the Camelbak to dilute it. Pushed as hard as I could throughout. Had a GU at about an hour in. Stopped briefly about 5 times for different reasons - bathroom, pictures, to make it the rest of the way up a hill. Still had to walk up the top half of the hill by the house. Next time - all the way to the top!

Trail Run (Potomac Overlook) 1:30:00 [2] 5.0 mi (18:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6

Met the VHTRC gang for Anstr's birthday run. Knew I wasn't going the distance but needed the excuse to get out of bed. Two bananas with peanut butter, 4 Advil, 2 puffs, and Gatorade/water mix in Camelbak. Made the mistake of venturing onto the Potomac Heritage trail below Potomac Overlook. Very rocky mile listed separately below.
No blister issues. Enjoyed my time out.

Misc (Rocks) 24:00 [1] 1.0 mi (24:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6

Scrambling over the rocks on the trail along the Potomac. Reminder to self - take the detour next time. Not alot of fun because I am hesitant on rocks, and the summer vines were heavy at times on the rocks.
Had a Nutz Over Chocolate Luna bar an hour into the workout. Don't swallow chocolate as well as the Lemonzest bar, so will stick to those in the future.

Mowing/Yard (Mow lawn) 30:00 [1] 0.0 mi

Knocked this out while I was already sweaty and dirty, though it could have gone another few days.

Running (Lake Accotink) 54:20 [3] 4.6 mi (11:49 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Hardrock

Had an errand in Springfield, so thought I may run at the Lake as well. One very warm Luna Lemonzest bar, 4 Advil Liquid, 2 inhaler puffs, and water. Low expectations after yesterday's workout, and wearing the Montrails which don't seem to be cushioned enough for me. Tape blister block to my left heel and off I go.
Watch set for a 5/1 interval, so I run/walk that sequence. Had to walk a bit addional - mostly the uphills. I know, I know, Lake Accotink isn't all that hilly. Just happy to be out. Temps okay except for the ~.5 mile unshaded part.

Walking (Lake Accotink) 1:04:00 [2] 4.6 mi (13:55 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Hardrock

Go around a second time in the opposite direction. Know I will probably walk the majority of this lap, and I do. Only run about 10 minutes. But walked as hard as I could without going into racewalk mode - the fastest was about 14:30 per mile - not too shabby. Average a bit better because of the bit I ran...

Chest a bit tight throughout this lap...

Running 48:10 [2] 4.7 mi (10:15 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6 S10

Fortified myself with 8 Fig Newtons, 4 Advil Liquid, and 3 inhaler puffs - and out the door I go. Have to be back in 30 minutes or so to put the dinner Roger prepared into the oven. Head downhill to Shirlington and then back home. Some walking sections listed separately below. After 3 minute oven break, I ran down to the high school track and ran laps in lane 6 - no stopping. Unadjusted splits: 241 245 246 244 243 237 234. Blister on the usual place - inside heel on left foot...

Walking 22:50 [1] 1.4 mi (16:19 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6 S10

Walked .3, .3 (uphill), .3, and .5 during & at end of the run listed above. Only got slightly rained on. A good workout.

Running/Walking (Wakefield HS Track) 1:03:48 [2] 5.3 mi (12:02 / mi)
ahr:135 shoes: Saucony Hurricane 5 Men's

Weird day - only partial power at work, so no computer, microfilm machine, copy machine etc. Though I had lights, they were dimmer than usual. After school was dismissed, the power would be completely shut off. So, though I am due to stay until 4, and my schedule has nothing to do with the school day, I bailed at 1:30. Came home and had a nice nap.
Not a good food day - two KitKat bars, half a sleeve of Fig Newtons, 1/3 bag of Bugles, on top of lunch.
Pleasant temps out in the low 70s, so I got my running gear on, took 4 Advil liquid and actually went out the door.
Easy jog down to the high school track. Then I had to walk because my lungs were killing me - too much dust sucked in from the bike races yesterday, and because I am so tubby right now... So, at this point I decided to alternate one lap running with one walking. This worked well and lungs finally stopped hurting. Times in lane 6: 414 227 405 221 359 217 350 215 348 225 358 223. Then walked home.

Note

Bike race: Finish line timing, 8 hours.

Bikes lapped past on a dirt road, as did the finish. Everything was covered with a thick layer of dust afterwards.

Running/Walking (Brandywine AR) 1:38:00 [2] 5.0 mi (19:36 / mi)
shoes: NB 1100 Trail

Shoes suck - throw them away. Blister on back of heel like all NB wore previously. Oh, yeah, did an "adventure race" at Brandywine SP in Delaware. Out of bed at 4:30 for a 5:00 departure.

Teams totaled 19 including 4 parent/child teams - importance of this stated later...

Trail run 2.5 miles, canoe 2 miles, "orienteering" 2.5 miles. One control not in circle. Otherwise a good event. Partner a bit more out of shape than I am, so it was too stressful. Managed to beat 2 of the parent/child teams but no one else. GOt them on the O section.

Beautiful day and got some exercise.

Misc (Canoe) 30:00 [2] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Biking 1:57:00 [2] 20.0 mi (5:51 / mi)

Out the W&OD and back. Wanted to do 20 miles, but I ended up at home 2 miles early. So, I looped around the block unil I had done 20. Very hot since I waited to 3 pm to go out. Didn't get up until 9:15 this morning. Enjoyed my weekend at home, but it was pretty unproductive...

Running/Walking (4 Mile Run Trail - paved) 1:17:00 [1] 5.68 mi (13:33 / mi)
ahr:141 max:163 shoes: Montrail Hardrock

Didn't get up until 9 today. Piddled around until 2 pm and then decided I really needed to do something before heading to Baltimore to see my mother. Debated bike or run. Since I had put on running shorts...
Very warm - 90 or so - so I headed to the shaded, hillier Four Mile Run Trail. Legs dead throughout - wrong shoes, no Advil, heat, etc. So, I jogged what I could, but walked the majority of the out and back trip. Out bound - 40 minutes, in bound 37 minutes including the BIG hill to the house.

Running (Track) 22:00 [2] 2.1 mi (10:29 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6 S10

Started out on the treadmill, but it pulls to the side from Roger using it so much at a slow speed. So, I headed out into the heat. Down to the track and ran 3 additional laps for 1.1 miles. Then walked a lap and over to the pool for a drink - from the water fountain, not the pool. Then ran another mile and then walked home.

Walking 12:00 [1] 0.75 mi (16:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Hurricane 6 S10

Walked between miles and walked home.
Situps: 50

Mowing/Yard 30:00 [1] 0.0 mi

Mowed the lawn after work - 90 degrees out.

Orienteering race (McKeldin Beer Chase) 1:18:36 [3] 6.1 km (12:53 / km) +210m 11:00 / km
shoes: Silva K80 1

Hot day - love those noon plus starts! Three loops with a beverage to start and finish. To make it fairer on the beer splits, I drank two beers each loop. Struggled throughtout - except for the beer splits. Heidi and I navigated and Darcy dragged me around - ran when I didn't want to just to be less slug like. Very good company!!

Walking (Control Pickup) 18:00 [1] 1.0 km (18:00 / km)
shoes: Silva K80 1

And since I hadn't had enough, I picked up 8 controls. :)

Note

O Meet: Epunch, 4 hours.
