Running/Walking (High Intenstity #2) 30:00 [2] 2.2 mi (13:38 / mi)

Program sequences from warm up spped to 6 mph & then back down again. Had to hold on a bit at 6 mph, so I am not back up to full speed yet.

Note

Man, I am sore all over. My shoulders from loading and unloading 2 truckloads of leaf mulch on Satuday. Also using my Hedgehog 24 to trim bushes above my shoulders. The new trimmer is great but heavier than my other one.

Then lots of sitting yesterday on an incline while doing the results for the VentureQuest at Hemlock. My left hip woke me up last night - very painful especially when I sway to the left.

My knees feel good though, so I am happy about that.

Mowing/Yard ((Actutal time = 50 minute) 10:00 [1]

Speed mow the lawn before the rain.

Trail Run (Hemlock to Centreville RD) 2:13:40 [3] 10.5 mi (12:44 / mi)

Working the VentureQuest adventure race at Hemlock, so decide to get a run in before. Out the blue blazed trail and then follow the old blue trail along the river. It is very flat along here. Turn around at the 16 mile marker past Centreville RD and head back. Stay on the current blue trail - much hillier and 1/2 mile longer resulting in a positive split...some downed trees and lots of roots to negogiate. Very enjoyable run though I know I shouldn't have done this much at one time.

Marked miles:

Outbound mile marker 11-12: 1044; 15-16: 1254

Inbound mile marker 16-15: 1451 15-14:1147 14-13: 1301 13-12: 1301 12-11: 1255

Biking (Bike Trail) 1:27:00 [2] 17.0 mi (5:07 / mi)

Accomplished several things today - besides going further than previous, I actually passed another biker. And they neither had training wheels or were toting a toddler on the back. :) Beautiful morning.

Follow this up with 4 hours of shoveling mulch and trimming the hedges.

Running/Walking (Bike Trail) 1:02:00 [2] 5.3 mi (11:42 / mi)

Hotter than I thought. Should have carried water and had to stop for a drink at the place where I have a storage locker. Out and back route. Measured halves were 424 and 433 in reverse. These are deceptive since they included walking breaks right before I ran the measured parts... Struggled a bit with my breathing and motivation on the return trip.

Biking 1:09:45 [2] 13.5 mi (5:10 / mi)

Out to Washington Blvd and back with some little extra on the return trip.

Biking 1:10:00 [2] 12.75 mi (5:29 / mi)

Out to Washington Blvd/Lee Hgw and back. Out in 36, back in 32. Of course, it is more downhill going back, but then I do have to climb the 2 BIG hills. Very nice late afternoon, early evening. Bike trail really crowded - lots of fair weather folk out.

Orienteering (Hemlock Green) 1:28:36 [3] 4.84 km (18:18 / km)

Goal was to push hard the whole way. Very difficult to do with some of the deadfall in the areas I went through. Had one of those long "Francis" legs which I really hate - about 1200 meters. Thought it was a pretty challenging course. Would have been much happier with my effort if I had not fumbled about for 6-8 minutes trying to find the last control which was within 100 meters of the road and 140 from the finish!! AGH!!!! Really did enjoy the time in the woods though. Beautiful clear crisp pre-Fall day. Right knee very sore and throbbing this evening.

Running/Walking 1:00:00 [1] 4.5 mi (13:20 / mi)

Have a little cold & fell asleep after work. Decided to go do a little something & couldn't stop yawning the first mile. Ran some and walked more. Right knee a little painful.

Biking 1:10:00 [2] 12.0 mi (5:50 / mi)

Delivered an envelope - just a slight detour from the W&OD trail - about a mile on the Bluemont Junction trail. Had to cross my first busy street - did not do it too well, but remained in one piece. What a sissy!

Biking (McKeldin) 20:00 [1] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Rode around the park roads to loosen my legs up some. Lots of hills.

Orienteering (McKeldin) 1:41:01 [2] 6.56 km (15:24 / km)

Red course with Darcy. Pretty accurate orienteering, good company, humid but not too hot day (at least not 95 degrees). Ran all of the trails.

Biking (Bike Trail) 1:09:00 [2] 12.0 mi (5:45 / mi)

Into a strong wind out on the 4 Mile Run & W&OD Trails. Terrorized the citizens of northern VIrginia with my blazing speed. Out felt like a 3, and in bound was easier. Was able to ride up the steep hill today near Columbia Pike. However, had to stop and rest halfway up the hill to home. The woman around the corner beat me up it - and she was on foot! :) Really enjoying this biking thing.

Note

Spent the last 2 days working results at the track meet that I swore I was never going back to. But here I was back again...enjoyed myself this year because they had 2 high school seniors to do the data entry for me. Turns out they were identical twins - it only took me about 3 hours to even suspect they were related...

Probably 50 trips up and down the bleachers to and from the press box over the 2 days.

Biking (4 Mile & W&OD) 1:01:00 [2] 11.0 mi (5:33 / mi)

Out to Bluemont & back. Took the shady 4 Mile Run trail back in - had to walk up the steep hill at Columbia Pike. Was able to peddle up the hill to the house - a longer but less steep hill than yesterday. Really wish that the uphill was at the beginning of the workout and the downhill at the end... :)

A little more confident than yesterday.
