Walking around the city with Roger.

Running/Walking (W&OD Trail) 1:00:49 [2] 5.0 mi (12:10 / mi)

Not as fresh as yesterday, but still a good effort. GPS thingee says mie splits were: 1328 1200 0514 (1/2 mile) 0930 1119 0915 (1/2 mile walking including the huge hill back to the house).

Misc 3:30 [2]

20 Pushups/40 situps x 2

Running (Neigborhood) 32:30 [3] 3.25 mi (10:00 / mi)

Good run - first one in a long time which didn't feel like I was dying the first 20 minutes. The measured halves were 430 431 431. Short on time tonight since we were going out, so I pushed hard from the start.

Walking (Back home) 10:30 [1] 0.6 mi (17:30 / mi)

Misc (80) 4:00 [2]

& 40 pushups in 2 sets.

Trail Run (Wakefield Park) 1:58:00 [3] 10.0 mi (11:48 / mi)

Trail race - 2nd in 3 race series. Seemed longer than 10 miles. With only 2 hill per loop, I ran the bulk of the race. Hard to believe it was at 11:48 per mile pace...
I beat one person in my age group - she tripped & fell about 1/2 mile from the end. I stepped over her, checked to make sure she was up & okay, and then "sprinted" to the finish.

Walking (4 Mile Run Trail - paved) 1:10:30 [1] 4.6 mi (15:20 / mi)

Thought about roller blading, but before I knew it I was out the door & down to the trail behind the house. Discover right away that my legs feel like lead. So, I decide to walk only & keep a good pace out to Carlin Springs Road & back. Stay on the 4 Mile Run Trail to at least get some hilly parts instead of the flat W&OD. Usually pick this trail for the shade, however large parts have been denuded by Dominion Power along their right of way. Shoes I wore tonight (which are the same model as 4 of my other pairs) is the pair that rubs the the inside of my left heel. They were the same ones I wore to do the 10 miler last month. I won't be wearing them this Sunday for the next 10 miler in the Backyard Burn series. Will take next 2 days off to rest my weary legs. I have 3 months to get used to doing something everyday before the 1000-Day... Oh yeah, the gnats were horrible. I sucked a fedw for protein. :)

Misc (80) 3:00 [1]

& 20 pushups.

Running/Walking (Warmup/cool down) 10:03 [1] 0.7 mi (14:21 / mi)

Run down to Wakefield track - nothing going on there this evening. Walk back afterwards.

Running/Walking (Wakefield track) 50:42 [2] 5.0 mi (10:08 / mi)

Have been very sleepy after work. Not sure if I wanted to run today, but I managed to get myself outside...Ran 4 min/walked 1 min. The 400 meter laps were 251 246 246 249 241 239 241 246 239 241 (included the 1 min walk) & 229 223 217 219 222 218 219 223 219 215 (the alternate ones with no walking).

Misc (Variety) 10:00 [1]

Lift 5 lb ankle weight about 10 times for each leg. Hope that doing this on a regular basis will help the knees hold up to the increased training. Did 20 pushups, 80 situps, 20 pushups. Stretched hamstrings.

Running/Walking (Treadmill) 1:00:10 [1] 4.35 mi (13:50 / mi)

Didn't want to mess with the stuff floating outside, so I climbed onto the treadmill. Not my favorite thing but at least I got a workout in...Warmed up & then walked 400 m & jogged 400 m increasing the jogging increments by 3/10 mile each time up to 5.9 mph.

Misc (80) 3:00 [2]

& 20 pushps.

Note

Weight: 186
Feel no ill affects of the weekend. Did have to take 4 Advil yesterday for my back. The usual lower pain after a day of working results.

Orienteering (McKeldin) 1:30:00 [3] 4.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

It was a hot day for a noon+ start. I got a late start from the house & it took longer than I thought to get to the meet. Since I said I would be home at 3, I needed to do things perfectly, but things didn't work out that way. When I got there, John B asked if I could help figure out IOF symbols for the clue sheet. The only thing provided was a written version which contained some odd things - like ledge, boulder chasm, & end of downed tree which had no root stock.
Anyway, after fiddling with this & copying my map, I didn't actually start until 1240 - later than I like to. All was well to the first control, though it seemed a bit dangerous to get to on the cliff. Then the 2nd control - we couldn't find it (about 7 of us). Then some people came from it about 100 meters down the road up in the green area. They acted like it was in the right place. Well, it was if you happened to come down the hill right there. I punch it & grumble to Fred H who says it was fine. Well, it wasn't & it bit him on the next one because he didn't adjust to where he really was.
On the way to 4, Heidi drives back from the start with a new bag. When she had passed on the road earlier, I told her the control was missing. Now, I was able to tell her it was mishung. She drives me down there and I retreive the control & we rehang it in the right place. About 5 more people are here looking for it...
I was going to stop & go home since it was already 1:30, but I get Heidi to drop me back where she picked me up and continue on.
With 2 controls to go, I am near the finish, so I bail - it is 2:30 already. The other 7 controls I go to are hung correctly, but several more of them seem to be in pretty dangerous places. And we seemed to be climbing up and down, or on the side of steep hills the whole time.
Though the experience made me cranky, I did enjoy the time in the woods. And with West Point coming up any rock time is good...
My last 3 meets have been a DNF, OT (French Creek blue), & DNF.

Trail Run (Hemlock Overlook) 1:17:24 [2] 6.5 mi (11:54 / mi)

Working results for the Bull Run Run 50 Miler which started at Hemlock Overlook near Clifton, VA. Waited for last person to come throught the 13.4 mile mark & then headed out for a run - it was about 9:30 & already getting quite warm. Glad I wasn't attempting 50 miles! The marked mile splits were: 1224 1027 1320 1150 - 1/4 & 2/3 are the same miles in the reverse direction.

Running (Neigborhood) 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Beautiful day though a bit windy. I didn't mean to let so many days go by without a workout, but the rain & other obligations worked to my advantage, er, disadvantage.

Head congested for last week, but chest is what hurt for this run. Too hard for no warmup.

Walking (Back home) 10:18 [1] 0.7 mi (14:42 / mi)

So, I headed back home to quit before the wheezing turned into something serious.

Misc (80x2) 6:00 [2]

Did one set of 80 & 20 pushups - once after the first 30 minutes & again after the workout below...

Walking (Treadmill) 32:42 [1] 2.31 mi (14:09 / mi)

My chest no longer hurt since the usual 20-30 minutes of pain involved in warming up was over. So, I got on the treadmill & did a bit more...

Orienteering (French Creek East) 3:31:57 [2] 14.5 km (14:37 / km)

Published distance was 9.4k, but I added plenty of bonus mileage to turn it into 14.5k. Aghhh!!!! Well, I did say I wanted to get my money's worth after the long drive... Besides a bruise on the back of my leg a couple inches above the ankle, only my left knee is a little sore.

Head has been congested since Thursday, but it didn't really affect me today - basically fell apart navigation wise about halfway through...

Note

Today was Roger & my 18th wedding anniversary, and I didn't even remember it until 2 days later!

Bought no fabric, not even 1/4 yard while in Lancaster area of PA - unless you count the Woolrich top I bought. Saving myself for Mary Jo's the end of June.

Note

Groin very painful for 24 hours - could hardly push off when walking. Then it suddenly felt better - well, as suddenly as 4 Advil & 3 glasses of wine could hit the spot. :) Just residule soreness left as of 8:30 PM. Off to Lancaster for fabric shopping tomorrow - another day off running is just as well.

Running/Walking (Bluemont & back) 1:26:19 [2] 8.0 mi (10:47 / mi)

A run during spring break is a bonus run since I don't usually get motivated to run regardless of how nice it is outside. Possibly the fumes from varnishing the front door & the subsequent headache got me out the door...

Ran to the bike trail at George Mason & 4 Mile Run, walked to Columbia Pike, and then ran 5 min/walked 1 minute out to a mile past Bluemont. Wind in face the whole time & felt like I was wearing lead shoes.

Turned around & wind had died - no push from behind! Outbound was 4404 & inbound with the hill climb was 4415. Splits (only inbound recorded): 945 (mile) 525 519 505 506 (halves).

Left knee hurt going down the first hill. Left groin aching at mile 5. Will ice tonight.

Misc (80) 3:00 [1]

Pushups (g): 30

Weight Monday morning: 188

Orienteering (Pax) 1:45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (21:00 / mi)

Planned to run a 10 miler outside of Annapolis this morning then meet my daughter for brunch. With the wind blowing and some rain at 6 am I passed on the run. Had lunch with Sarah & then to the O meet. Didn't go out until 1:50, and despite DST, they were asking that people still be in by 3. I probably should have done Green instead of Red. I would have been close but totally messed up #8. After recovering to the trail I ran the 1.5 miles back to the start/finish. Distance also includes the 800 m to & from the start. Felt decent & happy to have spikes on. Van complained as I passed him to the start that he kept his feet dry the whole time only to get them soaked from the last control. Well, I got my feet wet to the first control & nearly every opportunity after that. Ran merrily through the wet & mud on the trails & had a grand time. Less windy in the woods, but not totally blocked. Glad I didn't do the 10 miler!!

Running (Treadmill) 1:00:00 [1] 4.2 mi (14:17 / mi)

A bit too dreary outside for me, so used the treadmill. Mostly at 4 mph - walking or jogging. For the second half, I ran 200 m at 5 mph & walked 200 m at 4 mph.

Started on a long term antibiotic today - hope this will clear of the constant upper respiratory infections.

Misc (150) 5:00 [1]

Before treadmill, did 30 pushups, 80 situps, 1 minute break, and 20 situps. After treadmill, stretched hammies, and did 50 more situps.
