Note

An aborted attempt at THE DVD last night - no sound coming from my computer. So, instead of going to the dvd player in the other room, I got sidetracked trying to figure out the sound issue. Then dinner was ready, so still no sound, and no workout either.

I have three major collections in my home - hallmark ornaments, stamps, and quilts/fabric. Lately, the thought of these collections has become a bit overwhelming.

I have no interest in the ornaments anymore at all, though I will probably keep a few of my favorites. Maybe if I had just a few, I would appreciate them more. The collecting became an obsession. I HAD TO HAVE them. I was poor and coveted the ornaments, so when I could afford them I bought almost all of them every year. Then I filled it some of the earlier years as well. I didn't buy them for any future value, so I don't care really how much I get for them. The amount of closet space they are taking up is ridiculous.

The second collection is the stamps (US only). I started this one after I married Roger and discovered all of the stamps he had hoarded. He would buy a bunch of new stamps, but he would only use a couple of them. I started filling in the blanks, and putting them in albums. I worked backwards, and I also bought all of the new ones. Now, they have to go! I could start using them for postage, but I don't really mail that much anymore... I do like the mint set books which my mother gave me Christmas each year, so I may keep those.

That brings me to the fabric/quilts. Again, no half measure for me. I call the ton of fabric my "retirement plan." Over a 10 year period, I sewed 100+ quilts. And then I didn't anymore. I have started and finished a handful of quilts over the last five years, and I have been working on a T-Shirt quilt this last month. I think I have the desire to sew more again (and do less internet), even though my hands and eyes are protesting a bit. But, the quilts I still have need to go to good homes first, because I can't bear seeing them just sitting in a pile anymore. When I think about starting or finishing a project, I look at the pile, and I wonder what I am going to do with another quilt, and then I stop.
