Glasgow Parks Race 3/3
Bellahouston Park Chasing start
Had 20s lead on Patrick, he was right with me by 5 and nip and tuck until I took a non-optimum route to 9 (via 10 eventually) and blew 3 minutes in my confusion. It would have been a desperate head to head race otherwise. 2nd as Jon X was a bit further behind (although faster than me on this leg).

Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [3]

total warming up - should have done more warming down.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] 7.7 km (9:05 / km)

6-Day, last day - Glen Affric.
Revisiting the forest from yesterday's run, but this time as part of the 6-day. Early start, one small wobble but reasonably happy with the run. Tired, but a great place to be.

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3] 2.5 km (8:00 / km) +200m 5:43 / km

To the start

Orienteering 1:36:00 [3] 10.0 km (9:36 / km)

Pre-running (part of) the WOC Men's Long Course.
Really quite tough, really rather wonderful. Possibly the best bit of orienteering terrain in the UK on a terrific map, a world class course and with flags hung in exactly the right places. I had it all to myself (once Duncan A ran away on the butterfly loops). All I need now are the legs to run it as fast as the men (or even as fast as the elite women!)

Thursday Aug 6, 2015 #

Orienteering 53:30 [3] 8.3 km (6:27 / km)

Day 4 - Darnaway
One 4 minute wander at 7, otherwise good enough, and I really enjoyed it. Quite like the new - able to see the map - eyes.

Tuesday Aug 4, 2015 #

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Warm up on the way to the start of the WOC middle race.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 6.6 km (9:05 / km)

WOC Middle (Women's Course) - Pre-running. This was tough, but great fun. A course with almost not time to relax, and physically quite hard going. One monster mistake of the go out to the track and find a junction type, otherwise OK if not fast.

Monday Aug 3, 2015 #

Orienteering 1:09:00 [3]

Day 2
The wheels really came off here. Early start, lots of heather and bracken. Very confused at 3 (4 minutes) worse at 4 (another 4 minutes) and almost lost the will to continue as I really wasn't understanding anything. Only the presence of Roger T who was having a similarly bad time kept me going. Closest I've come to giving up in a long time. Unlikely to return.

Sunday Aug 2, 2015 #

Orienteering 1:02:00 [3] 8.9 km (6:58 / km)

Day 1
After yesterday's excitement I wasn't expecting to do too well here, and so it proved. Fun area with lots of variety. Occasional control placement gripes (vague hill top in green forest with control in a forestry ditch). Completely lost the plot in the archey section.

Note

WOC Sprint Relay

Strange, exhausting, wonderful.

Strange - the only race I've planned where I didn't put out any controls, and didn't inspect any of them once they were out.

Exhausting - 13 hours on my feet with various high speed sprints around the area.

Wonderful - it all worked! The race was exciting, the pictures were spectacular, the athletes took lots of different routes, made mistakes and put on a good show.
