Note

Just rode from my parents' place to LS and I my initial impression is that Sudbury drivers are way less patient than Cambridge/Boston drivers around bikes. Yikes.

Three bike trips today with the middle one long enough and sustained enough to qualify as some kind of exercise on a rest day. Parents to LS (2.7mi), then LS to Lincoln Station (4.7mi), then Porter to home (2.5mi).

First time taking the Commuter Rail with a bike. Easy peasy.

A not very long long run along the river. Not sure whether having a workout of about the same length yesterday makes the label seem more or less legit.

Idea was to pick it up a bit for the last 20 minutes. I sort of did. My legs definitely feel like they have been used.

Later in the day we went to a Norwegian play date at the Scandinavian Cultural Center where I had to explain orienteering to several Norwegians. The good news is that they thought it sounded like a lot of fun, so maybe we'll see some of them tomorrow.

I magically feel totally fine today so I decided to do the workout I should have done two days ago.

15' warmup
2 miles tempo + 4 min easy
4x[400m + 300m]
2x[200m + 200m]
warm down

Went to Weston and did the warm up and warm down on the trails in the woods and then the workout stuff on the rail trail. Worked out okay but there's really a big contrast in environment between the two that makes everything just seem harder on the rail trail, despite the smoothness of the surface.

Felt a little harder than I thought it would. I am not yet back to having a really good pace calibration and, though I am down a few pounds from the end of my recent Stuffing My Face To Cope With Misery phase, I am still carrying almost 10 lbs more than what I had when I left Norway, and that is not helping. Baby steps, I'll get there.

Totally forgot (I must have repressed the memory) about my dog incident at the beginning of the run. A couple was walking their two large dogs, off leash, and those two dogs decided I looked like a friend, ran at me and jumped on me when they saw me coming their way. They were not barking and they didn't threaten to bite, but they scratched me with their nails and the couple came running after them yelling at them to stop. Once again I don't think that the dogs are really at fault, I think that there are a lot of really shitty dog owners out there who greatly overestimate how well-behaved their dogs are.
