Orienteering race 2:38:00 [3] 9.5 km (16:38 / km)
shoes: Jalas2
Long Red at the Canal Cities Championship. This was one of my most sublime experiences orienteering. The streambeds were mostly dry, with the occasional trickle at the bottom. Just enough to rinse off the forest floor that was on my hands and arms from slipping, not enough to get my shoes wet. They have a bottom of shale in level steps. Makes for easy navigation.
I made a couple of errors, including a 180 out of a control, which I quickly fixed, a loss of contact when I was in the circle but didn't know it, and a loss of contact/lack of plan on the 1st leg. Other than that, things were generally clicking pretty well. Brain fart on control 17 (stream end), where I descended partway down the extremely steep reentrant before more closely examining the contour where the stream ends (up high, not in the ravine.)
Overall, a pleasant day in the woods, with enough fluids. Slowest time in my class, but after last weekend, where I took 3+ hrs for 8.5km, I was unsure if I could finish 9.5 km in under 3hrs.
