Walking/Hiking (LFIT) 40:00 [2] 2.1 mi (19:03 / mi)
(rest day) shoes: Adidas Supernova

Walk with Katherine and Rachel. Left shin just above ankle is slightly sensitive to pressure but it doesn't hurt for walking and is doing quite well considering. I'm trying to decide if I should run 3x per week starting at the end of this week, or if I should just hold off until summer & PT.

PT/Stretching (Stretching) 10:00 [1]

Note

Did some mapwork over lunch and dinner.

Hahaha the distance is funny because I ended up wandering off the map and going a gazillion miles.

I have NEVER been madder at myself. Except for at this one horse show where I got 1st in one class, 4th in another, then went psycho in the jumping round and ruined everything. But this may actually be even worse.

#1: Fine.

#2: Spike.

#3: Spike.

#4: Spike.

#5: Spike. This hill was killer. I was on all fours for parts of it.

#6: Spike.

#7: Spike.

#8: Spike.

#9: ..................doom.

I don't know what or if I was thinking, but I decided to go west from 8 to 9 just off a bearing, and I figured I'd cross a stream or two, then run into the field where 9 was. Wrong. Instead, I ended up off the northeastern corner of the map. I spent at least an hour looking for it. What I should have done is go south from 8 a little to find the field again, then just follow along it and it would've curved around to 9. After that, 10 would have been easy since I passed it between 7 and 8. Then 11 could be mostly on trails, and the route to 12 wouldn't have been bad either (although who knows, I could have messed it up too) since it would be partly on trails and you'd pass a hill and then you'd be pretty much at the finish.

But anyway, thank you Holly for rescuing me!!!

My splits for the first 8 are ok...a little slow because I was sore from yesterday (I need to start running again...), but without 9 maybe I would have had a semi-decent time.

Shins are feeling alright. Maybe it is the softer ground or maybe it is the painkillers. Anyway, I'm happy about that and excited to get back to running! And going to PT all summer to make sure I'm fit for next year. Otherwise, I am quite sore (need to stretch!!!), and have some minor cuts from running into a barbed wire fence and bouncing back off. Overall not bad.

So. I wish I could orienteer again tomorrow. Or as soon as all my muscles stop throbbing. Sorry about the novel. I'm just very annoyed.

But this was a fun weekend. I am glad we did it. I am glad Holly & Mallory & Kate dominated everyone! And it was fun meeting lots of orienteers.

Orienteering race (Orange Middle) 57:06 [5] *** 3.3 km (17:18 / km) +105m 14:56 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Everything went pretty well! It was really cool to be at a bigger meet and also meet some of Holly's friends.

#1: Ran off in the wrong direction. Realized it quickly and was lucky to find the right stream (there were a lot of them) to take me to the control.

#2: Spike.

#3: Could have gone horribly awry but ended up spiking. I basically went staight there, through open woods, across a field, through more open woods, across a stream, more open woods, then to the far side of the next field. All the vegetation boundaries were really obvious though, and the fields had good visibility, so this actually wasn't bad at all.

#4: Good, except I had a little trouble actually finding it.

#5: Spike.

#6: Same as 4, I got there fine, but had to hunt around for a couple minutes.

#7: Spike. This one was very lucky, since I just took a bearing and headed straight there. There were some streams though I could've used to relocate if I'd been a little off.

#8: Spike. Straight up the hill.

#9: Spike.

#10: Spike.

Navigationally, it was no problem. The biggest issue is that for the past 8-9 months, I have not been running because of shin splints, so I could have gone faster if I'd been able to run a few days per week leading up to it.

Orienteering (Green Sprint Relay) 35:04 [4] *** 2.47 km (14:12 / km) +75m 12:20 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Fun race, no problems finding the controls, I would just like to be faster next time.
