Running warm up/down 30:00 [1] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite

Steady running and Sprints. 15 min before both Sprint and Middle.

Orienteering (Sprint) 15:57 [3] *** 2.2 km (7:15 / km) +130m 5:36 / km
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite

A great race! Sprints are such volatile races, I just tried to run fast and clean. I didn't pick all the right route choices, I just lost the least amount of time among all the runners.WinsplitsRouteGadget

Orienteering (Middle) 32:24 [3] **** 4.7 km (6:54 / km) +250m 5:27 / km
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite

Second race of the day. Was worried I would be tired and slow, especially on the hills. As soon as I saw the first leg I knew this course was gonna be good. Started out a bit slow, had lost 50 seconds to Robbie by control #4. As the race progressed I started to gain energy. When I emerged into the arena I heard the Nev-Monster announce I had taken the lead! My legs were born anew. As one of the last starters I knew I had a shot at the Gold. When I picked up the second map I was relieved to see a shortish loop with comfortably technical legs. The splits on this last section speak for themselves.WinsplitsRouteGadget

This race goes down in the records as my new PB. A huge confidence booster in both my technical and physical abilities.

Fun training in the rain with the boys. Based on my splits and the soreness of my legs the next day I could probably run slightly faster paces.

(rest day)

Body feels a little beaten up after yesterday. Stretched out the body with Molly for full 20 minutes. Early bed for me.

All in all a mediocre race. Not bad for the Gats and nicely organized by Loup Garou. Was perfect weather. Had trouble executing route choice on long legs, mostly due to the bad map. Was pushing really hard on the hills. Coming out of #10 on the down hill at 100% velocity I tripped and flew several meters through the air. Landed face first into a stump decelerating instantly. There was no bounce or sliding. Felt like I'd been punched in the face. Nose is kinda sore and bloody. Incredibly no serious injuries to report. After the impact I stood up, checked consciousness, everything seemed fine so continued the race. Only had 4 more controls to go. Then coming out of #12 I mistook a pond covered in leaves as a clearing. Leaped onto the clearing and sank to my waste in icy cold water and gunk. Climbed out of the pond and finished the race soaked, covered in dirt, sweat and blood. Lost to Robbie by 6 minutes, mostly because of a bad control #9.

Nice weather though :~)
