Swim 35:00 [5] 1.3 mi (26:55 / mi)

quite possibly one of the hardest swims of my life. Not because of any other reason other than that I was not ready for it. Wow. Wrecked! Otherwise perfect calm, two laps clear sighting etc.

Random notes because I prob wont blog, had too much caffeine and want some notes...

Fast pack took off the front and I got drop in about 10ft. Work super, SUPER hard to stay up as the pack strung but dropped and working hard. Honestly really hurting and digging deep on the first lap and tried not to think about the 2nd. Much faster than last weekend and no draft, 2x+ as long. Second lap was massive fade and a fight to keep positive. Swam to the end of square and across the middle(we were swimming into the sunrise). I could have rounded the buoy and non the wiser but I swam back across and rounded the right buoy then all the way back around the back and finished the loop. Fighting more negative thoughts and dying in the water... 100's for time is a good baseline but I just dont have that to hold for this yet. Many people passing and I could not even hold their feet.

Road Bike 2:30:00 [5] 57.0 mi (22.8 mph)

have no idea on official times yet. very, very happy to get on my bike!

Got to work and felt pretty good - fast as all get up on that bike and wheels (31min to the first turn around and caught sight of the leaders. 4-5th all 1-3min apart.

That flat course was FREAKING HARD! Really started to feel it about 90min in and hams started cramping for first time. No nuun in Vitargo bottles or salt sticks. Mistake. Just kept pushing and HR dropping by the minute. Legs just dont have the power to push yet. Good learning. 160+ out of the swim, 150bpm on first out then had to really work to keep HR over 140 on the last lap. Legs trashed.

Felt great in aero and stood a bit more on the last lap, pee, maintenance, keeping to my own and not leaving anything for the run. Only way to know...great learning and stoked to race. Put down 3/4 of large V juice bottle.

Started coming back around last section back in and noticed I was rolling up on the 5th place dude. Left it all out there no doubt. racing for the right reasons and loving the learning! Bike had just over 2:15 split. Power was ugly and more like IM watts (240ish?) Legs are VERY sore already.

also need to consider cassette for race. Had 12-27 - worked great for Bonelli and most climbing course but often felt too slow/fast cadence/gearing for here. Would have been better to have a 11-23 or something....

Running 1:40:00 [5] 15.0 mi (6:40 / mi) +402ft 6:30 / mi

Well, this was more of a mental race and mental breakthrough than ever before. I kept telling myself (and M kept reminding me) to remember MY goals, focus on form, race MY race. Super stoked I had people to push me and find the chinks. Love it. No hiding on the dance floor!

Had to pull myself and keep present on the bike. Ready to run? Oh, boy. Hobbled out of T2 and just did my t-run. Didnt look at watch and just had to keep telling myself "your a runner now". Ran comfy but quick and was going to warm into and wrap my head around running people down. Watch beeped at first mile and it was 6:17. Jogging! Sweet!

Three miles in I caught the next guy up then ran into 3rd at mile 4 and up to 3rd place at about mile 5.5. Patience. I passed into 2nd about .5 miles before the turn around and 1st was running back. I was about 3min back and felt like I had it. Believe it. Believe. Its all in the head at this point.

Lots of work needs to be done if they ever want to make this a real series. I could go on and on but a big disappointment was having us run on this twisty sidewalk CEMEMT for the entire run and back course marking. Lost of people lost and right before the turn around I was one of them. Up to the water fountain loop where they placed a sign to stop cars only to come around and see the guy that I passed running straight and telling me "this way". Dude! Ran back up to him and we ran to the turn around. This time I could not drop him and he was about 5-10 meters behind me for about a mile or two. Another good lesson. I was not looking behind me for the entire run up to this point and I was not going to start now. I put in a big effort until the next aid (didn look back) and didnt see him again.

Funny running final miles. I was not going to run any faster but I was not going to run much slower either. Holding ~6:4X at slowest. JUST_DONT_STOP. Do your thing. Close. I tried. Got within 4min of Paul Amey who took the win but stoked on how it played out. watch had 14.15 miles in 1:33 - forgot to stop at finish..and no clock at finish line either??? Awards said I was 4:22. Learned so much and where I am at...what works and what is specific. 2013=DreamCrusing2.0

I cannot remember being this sore. Bike pushing to failure and fast cement running not to mention my back already feeling like I got beat with a pole. Ah, RACING! ha. Official Offseason!
