Note

Tired now and have a long running small hamstring/glute niggle. Think I will do well to have 2-3 weeks of little/no running and only light cross-training. Yoga, core, swimming and cycling on the menu. Then would like to start afresh later in July, maybe with a 10k in mind as I don't have a good pb under my belt. Think 38 dead is about my best but should be able to run a 36.xx just through sharpening up and would like to think 35.59 is not impossible with a following wind.

Milton Keynes urban
decent enough run in torrential conditions
Lost a bit of time at the beginning. #1 was a bit of a mess with the start triangle, two control circles and numbers 1 and 24 all within a tight circle. Suspect I won't have been the only one stood still trying to figure it out. Then #2 I made a wrong turn.
After that all pretty decent although I seem to have lost bits and pieces here and there. Probably just not pushing so hard and/or being out in the worst of the conditions; don't think I did much wrong.

Harvester - 1st leg
Good solid run albeit spoiled a little at the very end.
Ran v carefully for the most part, and being clean through the quarry section meant that only adam potter and ben windsor had run away.
Then I seemed to be leading the chasing group over the plateau to 13 and back to 14. Here there was not much detail to go on and although I was bang on I slowed down a lot to be sure - maybe too much but then at night generally better to be steady and safe. There was a block of trees close by 13 that was unsettling, but it must have been just off the map over the other side of the fence.
So think the chasers will have caught time on me there, and then I made a poor mistake to the second last. The gorse and paths seemed to be saying different things, and when hensman +1 charged off confidently towards a bush in what seemed to be the right direction relative to the paths I went with. Wrong. Sorted it out quickly enough but finished a minute or so down. Should have avoided the mistake - the gorse was mapped perfectly all the way and I should have trusted it.
Good and solid from the rest of the team as well for 4th place after two dsqs.

Waterlow Park race
Excellent area and planning
Made good on my self promise to ease off and pay more attention to navigating smoothly rather than pushing and running on the edge. No problems other than not seeing the flag a couple of times.
