I think in tough scottish terrain you either dominate or get dominated. I got dominated. Nothing particularly good or bad navigation wise - just so so slow and lacking in intensity.
There are plenty of reasons why I'm not the fastest at the moment, but I had them all in my mind from the very start and that's completely the wrong mindset to have.

JK sprint
Perfectly decent race spoiled near the end by going from #15 to #17. Just switched off a little having got out of the housing estate and it cost a minute.
Poor choice of footwear, in future I'll wear something grippier unless it's dry and close to 100% concrete.

Definitely getting somewhere, but still can't swim 'steady-state' crawl.
Things to remember for next time:
slower/less kicking
smaller head movements for breathing

Lunchtime run along the Thames. Didn't feel sprightly, no doubt 3 quickish runs in the last week has come as a shock to my legs. Also nowhere near enough warm up and down yesterday which was foolish.

SLOW head to head training on Clapham Common
3x ~2k gaffled loops
Kept my head reasonably well, but I lack speed and was noticeably behind Dan & Scott, except when I had the shorter loop 3rd time out.
