Orienteering race (Graythwaite) 1:00:00 [3] ***** 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Integrator

Such a disappointment, was really looking forward to the area. But chose the 1:15000 map, terrible decision, stop-start navigation to #5 then had had enough of not reading the map.

Note

Overall the JK was a bit disappointing - mainly because I was over-optimistic. 6 weeks of solid training after BOC might have made me feel good and meant I could keep up properly on Team Monday runs, but was nowhere near enough to race properly in M21E (though relay day was encouraging).

A couple of things to remember:
1) Looking at % behind winner and splits, I obviously struggled more in tough terrain - need more runs in terrain/gym work to get some strength.
2) Definitely need more race practice. Trying to navigate at full speed came as a real shock (it shouldn't have...) and I wasn't confident. It's clear now that for the last few years I've been preparing for decent, steady runs around 21L - but racing around 21E is loads more fun...

Light jog to the swimming pool.

X-training (Swim) 30:00 [1]

Q. easy swim then a sauna after. Felt good for that and the light exercise.

Orienteering race (JK Relay) 29:51 [5] *** 4.2 km (7:06 / km) +110m 6:17 / km
spiked:13/14c shoes: VJ Integrator

Men's Premier in Dipton, which was mercifully less physical than the individual days. Tim had what looked like a weary run on 1st leg, so had no pack to run with. Think I caught up time (but not places) on the teams ahead of us, then Matt and Mark were able to go quickly and win back a few places. Glad to get a proper relay run with Team Monday before leaving brizzle.

More straightforward navigation, but was still pleased to be able to navigate reasonably quickly. None of the hesitation and lack of confidence from the past few days. No mistakes, though I was slow to #7 - seemed to pass through a couple of unmarked small clearings before reaching the one on the map.

Team Monday 15th of 25.
13th of 50 on my course/12th of 25 on 2nd leg. Won in 24:49 (+20%).
