Grosmont to Goathland to pick up the car after family walk. Felt good despite the picnic. Nice uphill route.

Steep climb up on to the moor above goathland, then back down to whitby along little beck and the esk.
Bits of this felt almost exotic with the stream under thick tree cover.
Tired legs from the unfamiliar amount of climbing, especially feeling it on the downs where my legs were tight and couldn't let go.

Fancied it as a pb attempt, but i was 30 seconds off for a few reasons:
hot & muggy morning
feeling a bit run down
late start and zero warm up
few beers and poor sleep
A bit of a shame but still a solid run and i should get other chances.

Wheathampstead 10k
Nice course, off-road and undulating. Feared it would be swampy after a few rainy days but it was ok.
Started quick to get a good position for the early pinch points, and was pleased with how the 3:32 first km felt. After that we were out towards the hillier and muddy sections so the pace slowed, but i held the intensity up and sneaked into 7th place late on.
Definitely felt a little lethargic after a couple of weeks on holiday, hoping to get a bit more intensity in park run next week.

La Caleta coastal trail
Really nice, and I'm glad I had a trot out this way before holiday finished. Hot day. Lots of climbing in and out of coves, and very rocky terrain. Distance/pace doesn't really do it justice.

Had to drop off the hire car so made sense to run back. The morning was warm rather than hot, but still too warm to run. Very stop start with tourists, steps etc. but it was a nicer route than I expected.

British relay champs
First leg for 2nd team
Frustrating for a couple of reasons. First I was feeling physically better than yesterday despite two and a half hours running in my legs. Just needed BOC to be a few days later and be fully over my cold, so that's a shame.
Then after a good start to the run where I got my head in gear quickly, I got my head out of gear. Lost a lot of time searching for #4 having been convinced I was in the right place. I eventually got back to the same spot, different angle, saw the flag. I was flustered after that, made a bad decision for #9 and lots of little scrappy misses. It's a pain as I was capable of better but just didn't have a good day.

British champs classic
Was always going to be tough but felt like an uphill battle from early on. I made a small parallel error to #3 and then gradually realised on a steep slope of parallel reentrants and crags I was in trouble. Had to go right out and back in again and I'd blown 8 minutes on a short leg - avoidable as I could have checked where I crossed the stream at halfway.
Apart from that I was mostly good, especially on the vague marshy section midway, which I loved and remembered from junior days. Might have made better decisions late on to avoid the steep rocky slope but hey.
Physically didn't feel great, unfortunately it came a couple of days too early and I was still a bit under the weather. Felt like I was really having to manage my effort more and earlier than I'd have liked.
Still, what a day, area and course. Wouldn't have wanted to miss it.
