Orienteering 29:40 [4] ** 6.8 km (4:22 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco

London Park Race series, Tooting Bec
Surprisingly tricky course in places trying to go at pace through the fiddly little paths through the rotten green. Missed a little at #1 trying to go too fast, and at #14 just getting thoroughly confused in a bit of oxygen debt.
Definitely felt the lack of speedwork recently - running well under 4:00/k to begin with but the pace slipped back by around 40s/k towards the end.

Road running 35:00 [1] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Various bits of jogging before & after.

Note

Had to work today and only had a couple of hours spare - went to watch the match instead of training. That's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Thanks lads.

Road running 46:25 intensity: (30:00 @3) + (16:25 @4) 11.14 km (4:10 / km)
shoes: Asics 2140 (ii)

Decent-paced run to Regent's Park and back, including a tempo effort in the park itself at around 4:00/k.

Road running 35:00 [3] 8.08 km (4:20 / km)
shoes: Asics 2140 (ii)

Weird after work run fuelled by a couple of match pints and a strong espresso when I got home. What with the weekend's race, delayed flight and late nights at work since I should have felt awful, but actually felt great.

Orienteering race 2:16:00 [5] ***** 13.5 km (10:04 / km) +650m 8:07 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: Jalas Jukkola

Jukola.
What an amazing race this is. Watched the start and first leg and turned in for the night pretty inspired by the sight of it all.
Woke up to the news that this was one of the hardest jukolas in years, the leading teams way down on the expected pace, and so many teams in the mass start. So started with about 1000 others and quickly settled into my place in the pack - nowhere near the front unfortunately as I was seriously lacking pace.
Had a pretty good race, although it was one of the toughest ever. Small parallel error at #13 but easily corrected, but other than that it was clean.
Really ran out of stamina towards the end, not surprising given lack of training, but just about managed although the last steep hill was a tester.
Can't decide whether the huge pack made things quicker or slower for me. On the one hand it definitely helped to have others taking care of navigating at times, but on the other hand there were bottlenecks when it slowed to a walk.

Overall - can't wait for next year's!
Don't seem to get splits owing to the DSQ but was sthg like 250th on the leg. If anything a little closer than usual to the top brits.

Jukola 2010

Terrain running warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)

just a little.

Orienteering 50:21 [1] 5.4 km (9:19 / km)
shoes: Jalas Jukkola

Easy paced training run pre-Jukola. Took ages getting into the map to #1 then OK after that.

Off-road running long 1:20:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) 16.84 km (4:45 / km)
ahr:168 shoes: Asics 2140 (ii)

Not especially long, but first run over an hour in about 6 weeks so it felt like a slog. Think I have taken several steps back these last few weeks. V disappointing.
On the plus side this is a nice route, which could be even better if I get the train/bus out to bromley first and spend more time in marvels wood/scadbury park.

Road running 52:34 [3] 12.13 km (4:20 / km)
shoes: Asics 2140 (ii)

Lunchtime run to regents park. Really frustrated that work has been uber-busy again since I got back and so having been fresh and fighting fit after a very active holiday, I am now very much neither.

Road running intervals 35:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (20:00 @4) 7.0 km (5:00 / km)

Reps on the road in Lewis. Felt a bit sluggish.
10x(80,40) so not exactly the most punishing session.

Terrain fartlek in the hills behind our cottage on Lewis. More of the same terrain so really hard work when I wanted it to be.

Cycling (road) 2:39:26 [2] 55.0 km (20.7 kph)

Long ride out to the Callanish standing stones and a bit further up the coast, then back. Kept a nice steady pace and really enjoyed it, although the roads were a bit bumpy.

Drove to the bottom of a hill and I run up it and back down again through the terrain off the path. Again, great fun.

Terrain running 51:02 [3] 5.8 mi (8:48 / mi)

Terrain run up & down the coast path on our little island off Lewis. Hard work again with all the marshes and short sharp hills. Great fun.

Cycling (road) 2:06:58 [2] 23.1 mi (10.9 mph)

Quite hilly ride up one side of Loch Harport. Mostly got a great day for it, though a heavy shower made the last 20 minutes hard work.
