DIY Goat, Mountain Lakes, 10.35 km, 400 m climb. Running out of time to do this, and with my weekend booked up, I took a vacation day on this absolutely lovely day. Just under 70 F when I started, and 77 F when I finished. I carried a pint of water and drank half of it, and didn't eat the gel that I brought. I was hoping to be under two hours, and made that comfortably. I had the 1:10000 map printed on glossy photo paper, and my eyes were adequate for that.

Slight fishhook on #1 (and a hesitation as I squinted to find a reentrant in the circle. #2 and #3 fine, pretty straight on #4 but I got off to the right near the end, corrected when I saw the clearing ahead, and went directly to the cicle, but I was one cliff high and briefly took a look uphill before turning around and spotting the flag behind me. RIght aroud the marsh on #6 (maybe that was dumb), shaky going into #7 but I was where I intended to be, #8 fine. On #9 I was a doofus crossing the trail and managed to loop around and hit the same trail, but I immediately realized what I had done and the rest was fine. Shaky on #10 but spiked it, #11 no problem. The GPS track id out to lunch on #12 because I was on the dirt road, not traipsing over hills. I should have stayed on the trail at the end longer, would have saved a few lines of climb. #14 and #15 fine, skipped #16, #17, #18, F all fine.

Relaxed in the car for an hour playing with my phone, then drove home and got to Lunenburg a little after 4 PM.

On the way home from Nancy's, In The Dark. I didn't park where I intended, but whatever, I walked the railroad bed in the direction of where I had intended to be and rtim was up so I turned around just as I was getting there. Rails and ties are still in place here, but there's a pretty good trail next to them. A number of private property signs on both sides, and also water on both sides for a lot of it.

Tapering...

WBNE, running the course that I set for myself a month or so ago in more or less reverse order (I omitted what had been the last control and the finish, and added an extra one after I got to the old start). Nice evening to be out. This seems like a weird thing to say, but my back was still a bit tender form yesterday's Swedish lesson.

A walk over to Rolling Acres Road and back In The Dark. I actually finished this just after midnight. And this was exploring the idea of double-dipping: in addition to it being my daily exercise, I was also doing my daily Swedish language practice on my cell phone. Totally distracted walking, maybe good training for orienteering in that I was thinking while moving, and having to read something without being able to keep my eyes on where I was putting my feet. The sidewalk on Lancaster Ave had some rough spots, but I didn't trip. Not sure I'd want to do this again, it was difficult to type while walking (especially because there's extra work involved in typing ö, ä, and å), and it was tough on my back for some reason. It was a relief when I finished the Swedish and was able to just walk for the rest.

Another trip out to the area behind Flat Hill Orchard. A couple of technical singletrack climbs that would probably be better done in the other direction, an out and back to get a picture for my brother of the back yard full of rusted-out VW buses, and a successfull exit through the trail that goes to Page St (after skirting through somebody's yard), so I now know almost the whole snowmobile route through this area.

A walk, In The Dark, to unwind and give Nancy and the cats some space after a stressful episode transplanting them to my house. (The cats, that is. Nancy's transplantation hasn't happened yet.)
