A different loop across the street. I was expecting mushy, slushy, warm, and windy, and that's pretty much what I got, though the wind wasn't too bad in the woods. Icy where there had been foot traffic, or (especially) snowmobile traffic. There's been a little trail modification, because the obvious trail leads directly to the big bridge now, rather than to the driveway. The brook was high, but not quite what I'd call flooded (may have been yesterday, though), I only needed to make one small detour. Went into Peabody Conservation Area to scope it out, the trail in is a little different than where I used to go before (due to logging), and the actual loop was longer than I expected, quite nice. And back on the road. Took it fairly easy the whole way.

Note

Snow dealings, bonus round. For the first time in two months, I was able to drive my car down the driveway entirely on asphalt. This required prying up blocks of 10 cm thick ice from the area near the street and carrying them off to the side.

Hill repeats on Holman St., In The Dim. Pretty unusual activity for me, but it's Daylight Saving Time now, and I reckoned that the woods would be pretty mushy and slushy, so this seemed more appealing. The plan was to do five ascents of the hill, with increasing levels of effort, and too take it easy on the way back down. Started with a jog over there, and scoped out my endpoints: from the parking lot entrance up to mailbox #250. The first one was easy, the second a bit harder, but the speed graph doesn't reflect that. The third one was more spirited, and the fourth was pretty vigorous and nearly croaked me. So I did the last one at about the same intensity as #2.

Surprised to see a trailhead signboard across from the parking lot designating the area on the west side of the road down by the brook as the Peabody Conservation area (Google Maps seems to know about it). I'm really out of touch, I had no idea, but I'm pleased, as that's a place I used to run fairly often, and now it's appparently even legit. I wonder who Peabody was/is. Next time I'm down there I'll read the signboard. (Or, I could check the internet. Now that I see where it is, I think I was on the Consevation Commission when this was established, although at the time, the land trust was saying that it wouldn't have public access.)

shoveling (snow) 20:00 [2]

Snow dealings, round 9: Nancy's driveway. Didn't even try the snowblower, just shoved the glop around with the pusher and lifted some of it with the yellow shovel. Great timing, as it was just switching over to rain. When I got to my house, it was fully saturated and I just drove on it and let it sit there. I think it's supposed to stay kind of warm and I'm hoping it will melt.
