shoveling (dirt) 2:00:00 [4]

Septic dealings, round 2: found the D-box. Starting from where I had located the far end of the septic tank, I followed the outlet pipe, resulting in a trench about 18' long and 30" wide, and the D-box cover showed up about 30" down. Roughly speaking, that's on the order of 4 yds of dirt (some of which was in the previous session). Had to deal with some tough roots, some by busting them with the shovel, and some with the mattock. Now I need to call the septic guys back and see if they can bring equipment over to do the rest of the job, which I'm hoping they can do now that the key item has been located.

Just by coincidence, the last time I did something like this, when Nancy was selling her house about... 7 years ago? I coincidentally happened to be wearing the same shirt:

6 PM

paddling (kayak) 59:26 [1] 4.17 km (14:15 / km)

Nashua River in the Still River district of Harvard, with Nancy (orange boat). A bit of current here, and there were a few snags that we had to work our way around, one of which seemed impassable at first until we found the sneaky way through. Stopped for a bit where we turned around to wait out a rain shower under some trees, but then we gave up and just started paddling again. Plenty of mosquitoes out, and they seemed unfazed by our repellent.

paddling (kayak) 9:14 [1] 0.83 km (11:06 / km)

And when we got back, Nancy said we might as well go downstream for a bit since we were already wet. That was interesting for a few minutes until the bugs got too annoying.

Ascutney double, harness/bar/battens on the first trip, glider on the second. Staggering in several spots on that last trip, but I never fell; not sure what my motivation level will be to do this again, but I'm damn sure glad I don't have a heavier glider.

Aaaaaand then... 15 minutes in the air. Not logging the carrying of my packed up glider to the west edge of the LZ, nor carrying my harness from the hayfield to Kansas, because I didn't time them.

Lake Wampanoag in Gardner/Ashburnham with Nancy, orange boat. Nice lake, the first place where we were going to put in, based on a recommendation from the web, had a No Trespassing sign. So after a little more web consultation on my phone, we headed to a Boy Scout camp (Camp Collier), where they have a nice boat launch area for a $5 fee. While paddling around, we encountered a woman who was looking for the guy she was paddling with, who she thought was ahead of her, but he was actually behind. We encountered them again after they found each other, and had a brief conversation, which included a little where-are-you-from that got a little spooky as we got more specific. I said who I was first, and she started laughing and had a fine old time giving me some hints until I guessed that she was Lisa Kretschmar, who lived a few houses away from us in the 1960s. I can only remember seeing her once in the past 45 years, since they moved.
