NAOC Sprint, M45 (course 5b), Arnprior. Very clean, as far as I'm concerned, just a small time loss on the penultimate control when I went to the pair of bushes that were... well, I'm not sure what I did, because looking at the map, I went to what still seems like the right place, but the control was one tree over. Rather pleased to have a fastest split (among M45 runners) on the next control, something that I rarely get. Many of the elite guys were faster, of course, and I think there's a fair bit of malarkey going on here as well, because comparing the official splits with my watch, I think there must have been two punches at #70 that differed by about three seconds. Splits analysis shows that I lost 14 seconds going to it, and had the best split leaving it, and my guess is that neither of those is quite true. I would have thought that I lost no more than 5 seconds on the miss, but maybe it was 10. But I was pushing pretty hard, trying to stay ahead of a guy I had passed, and my chute time was respectable as well. But in the end, on a course where only four people lost more than 90 seconds, and one-third of the field lost no time at all, keeping the mistakes down to 14 seconds isn't good enough, this was a plain old running race, and I was only fast enough for a 23rd place tie out of 44. (No errors would have moved we up about three places.)
