NAOC Middle distance, M45 (course 7a), Carp Ridge North. Pretty serious disaster. Started out fine, then screwed up #6 through #9, with no idea where I was on the way to #7, and #8 being a real disaster. Then a minor error on #12 due to difficulty reading the map in a busy area. 27th out of 54 on the course, 26th in the class.

Prospect Hill, NEOC local meet. Second time in a row (and it hasn't been uncommon to see this recently) that I arrived around the end of the start window and the meet crew had resorted to collecting used maps from people who didn't wannt to keep them so that they could recycle them for later starters. This is bewildering. Plan for success, people! This of course never used to happen in the bad old days of master maps, because you'd always bring a huge stack of blanks. But now with preprinted maps, either because of poor planning or a misguided attempt to not waste money on leftovers, meet directors are cutting it too close and failing. Whatever guidelines are being used should probably be multiplied by 1.5.

Map is a little misdrafted, and I never did like the venue all that much. Calling it only three errors is being a little generous too myself. Definitely lost time on #3, a small amount on #4, and at #7 the map was hard to read. The rest were basically okay, with a few small hesitations. Looked like I was probably in 4th place, way behind Dancho, and only a few minutes behind Ben and Tobias (they must have had pretty bad days).
