paddling (kayak) 49:53 [2] 4.24 km (11:45 / km)

Got up early and drove to Maine for a five-lighthouse day, including visits to two lantern rooms, and with the final one being a kayak voyage with Nancy in Tenants Harbor to see a lighthouse formerly owned by Andrew Wyeth and now owned by his son Jamie. Possibly the furthest we've ever gone from land, and the swells were getting large enough that we decided not to do a lap of the island.

running (woods) 36:28 [2] 4.7 km (7:46 / km)
shoes: GoLite Blaze Lite

A little jaunt across the street with Marcello, showing him where the trails are. We took it kind of easy in order to be able to have a conversation, and because it was getting pretty dark and it was har to see where we were putting our feet, never mind my being able to navigate. Complicated things for myself by going in the opposite direction from what I normally do, so the landmarks were a little unfamiliar. Down the main trail, across the Xmas bridge, along the esker, then left to get on the power line trail, and turned left at Mystery Blazes and found my way to the crossing (but the brook was low and we just hopped across), then back to the Lane trail and home.

There's some kind of mischief going on across the street with a small excavator, and in light of the fact that Sandra Lane is looking to sell off her property, I'm wondering if it might be perk testing. A strategically placed house could really cut off my access to go running in the woods.

Note

Filled in some stuff about the Maritimes trip last week, if anyone is interested in scrolling back to look.

pedaling (unicycle) 41:32 [2] 6.24 km (6:39 / km)

Holman/Highland figure 8, feeling out my limitations. The steep drop from Oak Ave. to Highland was more than I was comfortable with on the big wheel, so I hopped off there. Another unplanned stop shortly afte I turned onto Highland from Northfield, and then a weird fall on the second pass down Holman. I was just riding along, and it was like somebody threw a chock in from of my wheel (might have been a piece of bread, or maybe a crack in the pavement), it just stopped and I kept going. Totally unexpected, so I dropped the unicycle, but I just landed on my feet walking.. I was feeling wobby and spacy at that point (tired), so I didn't attempt the steep climb up to the house.

orienteering race (kayak) 1:05:15 [4] 5.69 km (11:28 / km)

Pawtuckaway canoe-O, solo in the orange kayak. I waited until p[retty late, and had to face a killer NW wind, which I made worse by doinng the course CW, which meant that I was going straight into it on the most exposed leg. Poor job of estimating how fast I'd be able to do the last couple put me five minutes overtime, after getting 11 controls. I think it would have been really tough to clean this course even with strong paddlers in a fast boat in ideal conditions.
