Drove out to Athol to skate on Tully Lake, where the canoe-O was held last summer. I didn't really need to go quite that far, as the lake out at the western end of Fitchburg where we went for the run last spring was almost as free from snow, albeit somewhat smaller and less interesting. Had a fine time, great fun skating through the coves and around islands. The ice was quite good, not mirror-smooth, but about as nice as you can expect, just a few ridges here and there, as well as the inevitable cracks (only fell down once). Somewhat windy, which makes things a little less fun, but not too bad. Not another soul to be seen the whole time I was out there.
